SPRINGFIELD - Thursday, State Rep Brad Halbrook , with the support of his downstate colleagues Chris Miller and Darren Bailey introduced HR 101, suggesting that Illinois split into two states between the City of Chicago and the rest of the state - making Chicago the 51st state.
The resolution’s wording is as follows:
WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is often regarded as having two distinct regions, the City of Chicago and downstate Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Even communities north of Chicago are considered “downstate” because they have more in common with rural southern and central Illinois counties than they do with the City of Chicago; and
I think we should make LA-Chicago-NYC a state. There’s no requirement for geographic contiguity. Let the new state have its two senators.
Downstate IL would be Red stripped off Chicago.
This resolution is DOA. Democrats arent going to give Republicans two free Senate seats and a bunch of House seats in perpetuity.
When pigs can fly.
Back in the day we divided the state by I-80, it kind of matched the settlement patterns. The kooks from the Burnt Over Area of New York including the Mormons settled in the north while Scots-Irish to the south.
Hey, I like the idea of breaking Chicago away from Illinois BUT it should become its own country not just another state.
Two more senators for Puerto Rico, two more for Chicago. And what about DC?
Sure.
Shouldn’t that be the 58th state acording to Zippy Obama.
I am for “right of return” in California.
It should be broken off to float away and sink into Lake Michigan.
NO!
No more states - and especially no City-States.
This isn’t the age of Pericles or the Roman Empire.
And we most definitely do not need two more hard-core leftoid senators.
Maybe we can convince Chicago to secede and join the African Union or the European Union.
Fake news! The place name Chicago translation is where wild onions grow not your fraudulent concoction “stinky onion”.
But statehood for Chicago ? Just what the prevogressicrats need 2 more US Senators like Dickhead and 4 Houserats like Gutierez.
better, Chicago should be purged from the union
State of Disrepair
California will be jealous ...
The positive is maybe the GOP would have a chance in “Illinois” without Chicago. The bad news is Chicago would get its own two Senators. Oh, wait, that’s not so bad, as “Illinois” without Chicago would get two Senators as well.
But that. and the whole idea is fantasy - ain’t going to happen.
Better: Shove it into the lake.
The state of Chicago? Only if the following will join it: New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Bridgeport, CT, New Haven, CT, Hartford,CT, Portland (Maine and Oregon), Seattle, Tampa, Orlando, Minneapolis and Washington DC. I think if that happened, we might have a chance in Oregon, Washington, California, Connecticut, Minnesota and strengthen our hold in Maine.
How about making it an isolated region of Canada?
