Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said Tuesday that she was not prepared to endorse President Trump in his 2020 reelection bid.
Im not prepared at this point to make that decision, the senator told PBS NewsHours Judy Woodruff, noting that she was focusing on her own reelection campaign.
But do you expect at some point, between now and November of 2020, to endorse the president, since youre a Republican? Woodruff pressed.
I dont know, Im going to have to see what happens between now and then and look at what his record is, Collins said. "I cant imagine that I would endorse any of the Democrats who are running right now but Im going to focus on 2020 in 2020.
She also refused to respond one way or the other about whether shed endorse a GOP challenger to Trump, saying shes neither ruling it in nor ruling it out.

. @JudyWoodruff : "Are you, at this point, prepared to endorse President Trump?" @SenatorCollins : "I'm really focused on my own [re-election] campaign for 2020, and I really haven't focused on the presidential campaign. So, I'm not prepared at this point to make that decision."
While Democrats have been lining up to challenge President Trump in 2020, there have not yet been any Republicans who have announced a challenge. Former Sen. Jeff Flake put any speculation that he may challenge the president to rest this week when he told CBS's John Dickerson that he "always said that I do hope that there is a Republican who challenges the president in the primary. I still hope that somebody does, but that somebody wont be me. I will not be a candidate.
Susan Collins... the female Senator who, regardless of her sex, somehow figured out how to be a dickhead.
All I know is that she has supported just about EVERY REPUBLICAN JUDGE who came before her, would a Democrat replacement do the same - or even support anyone Trump nominates?
Yes, of course, I remember the drama with Kavanaugh, but she still was the final vote for him.
So, I could care less if she supports Trump...as long as she supports his judges.
Collins and Murkowski reflect poorly on women senators. Thankfully Flake is gone and unfortunately metrosexual Romney has just started with his antics.
PDJT ought to support a primary against her by former Governor LePage.
I will always remember her pivotal speech on the Senator floor in favor of Kavanaugh, in which she kept harping on his support of the precedence of Roe v. Wade as her key deciding factor.
Hopefully, next year, she will be headed to retirement while LePage is swept to victory by the coattails of President Trump’s reelection!
These cowards are hampering Trump's progress - not the Rats!
“Graham, McSally, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Hyde-Smith, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Gaines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans.”
Agreed. Combined with the Maoists on the other side of the aisle they have a 75-25 majority on anything of consequence.
“Hopefully, next year, she will be headed to retirement while LePage is swept to victory by the coattails of President Trumps reelection!”
Yes, she’s up next year and LePage would be an excellent opponent. Collins is such an ideologue that Trump having a “sit down” with her is probably a waste of time. So he needs to start the wheels turning for LePage if LePage is interested. Beyond getting the SCOTUS “recrafted,” wiping out the GOPe has to be the second most important activity going forward, particularly in the Senate!
You do realize that with the 27 “worthless as $hit” Senators on your list, you’ve named HALF of the “Repubicans” in that body!
Unless you are from Maine and have a better idea, Id be grateful for her vote and let her negotiate the political waters of her state.
Really? Is that what Democrats do? Have you checked Doug Jones’ voting record lately?
Does she really think anyone is surprised by this?
A lot of Democrats ran to the right in order to win their own state (ieJoe Manchin), but quickly fell in line with their party afterwards. Susan would likly do the same thing.
The only problem is “Susan” falls in line with McConnell and K Street. Not POTUS and Main Street. And don’t give any excuses about confirming judges. That is a cop out because they have literally nothing else to crow about.
All I know is that she has supported just about EVERY REPUBLICAN JUDGE who came before her, would a Democrat replacement do the same - or even support anyone Trump nominates?
Those Republican judges have gotten us what, exactly? Basically nothing as far as I can tell. And meanwhile the Uniparty continues running out the clock on Trump’s Presidency.
Just CYA Why give her Democrat opponent a head start 18 months out? Collins is not a conservative but she is not dumb enough to step in that trap either.
Why are people from Maine so odd?
LePage moved to Florida.
Collins has a history of success, and some grounds for hoping for continued success.
Jones is probably resigned to being a freak of nature.
As if that bitch voted for President Trump in 2016. Please.
“Those Republican judges have gotten us what, exactly? Basically nothing as far as I can tell.”
I guess you could start with Heller. The problem isn’t Republican judges, the problem is that some, like Roberts, are compromised or start losing their way, like Sandra Dee, or are fake conservatives from the start, like Souter.
The ONLY way to stop leftist crap is to re-populate the courts with conservatives, and make sure that the judges mentioned above are outvoted. This doesn’t happen overnight, and sure as hell won’t happen with Hillary selecting judges.
And by the way, we’re talking about living in a country much like the Soviet Union was under Stalin in the 1930s (during the Great Terror), if the Dems can finally get full control over government.
So, maybe we don’t like some of the rulings, but we can either sit back and watch the Dems do what they have in store for us...or we can do our best to PREVENT that.
