Newly sworn in California Governor Gavin Newsom threw down the gauntlet during his inauguration speech, saying, "People's lives, freedom, security, the water we drink, the air we breathe – they all hang in the balance" - remarks clearly aimed at the president. He also doubled down on his immigration policies by saying that California would give "Sanctuary to all who seek it." The federal government is suing the state over its sanctuary law.
Donald Trump is hitting back.
President Trump threatened to cut federal emergency funding for California’s firefighters in the middle of a partial government shutdown.
On Wednesday morning, Trump complained that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sends billions of dollars to California to fight fires that are the result of poor forest management.
“Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest [sic] fires that, with proper Forrest [sic] Management, would never happen. Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!” Trump tweeted.
Based on Trump’s phrasing, it’s unclear whether he meant that he has already ordered the funding to stop until the issue is addressed or if he would order the funding to stop if the issue isn’t addressed.

Not a smart move. I'd cut off Federal Highway monies. Fire fighting impacts lives. Roads that aren't maintained just makes people PO'ed. And when they direct their ire at Trump,. he should just say: "Your governor doesn't want to play by Federal rules, then he gives up Federal support."

No sense in shoveling money into firefighting when California shovels fuel INTO the fire from the other direction. Firefighting saves no lives when you do that.
Someone will design a robot that fire fires anyway. More personnel is never the answer to any problem.
Huh. Newsom is upset that he might be held accountable when he and his state are breaking Federal Law? Yet, when Arizona tried to enforce Federal Immigration Laws because the Obama Admin WASN’T ENFORCING SAID LAWS, Arizona was sued to stop. IIRC, the Obama Admin won that suit.

On June 24, 2016 — during the waning days of President Barack Obama’s administration — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson sent a three-page memorandum to 10 top law enforcement chiefs responsible for border security. The subject line referenced a terrorism threat at the nation’s land borders that had been scarcely acknowledged by the Obama administration during its previous seven years. So far, it also has evaded much mention in national debate over Trump administration immigration policy. What a shock with the liberal media. The subject line read: “Cross-Border Movement of Special Interest Aliens”.
It states within the letter: “As we all appreciate, SIAs may consist of those who are potential national security threats to our homeland. Thus, the need for continued vigilance in this particular area.” Elsewhere, the secretary cited “the increased global movement of SIAs. For those of you who don’t remember, it was this type of illegal alien tht got New York, the pentagon, and a huge loss of lives due to plane bombings by aliens in the country falsely just as terrorists.
How many are there? One set of SIA apprehension data reflecting September 2001 through 2007, during the Bush years, showed that nearly 6,000 SIAs from 42 countries had been apprehended at the border. And those are just the ones they admit to. However, those numbers dropped during the Obama years.
A 2009 GAO audit of Border Patrol inland highway checkpoints in Texas found more than 530 SIAs logged in 2008, including three “identified as linked to terrorism”. However a confidential Texas Department of Public Safety intelligence report leaked in 2015, citing CBP data, disclosed 439 encounters with SIAs in Texas during the first nine months of 2014, a 15 percent increase over the previous year. My guess is that they are realizing the next president, turning out to be Trump, was going to clamp down and they needed to illegally enter before the speed bumps were put in place.
In the ongoing public debates about immigration enforcement, the absence of SIAs as even a consideration raises the prospect of high-consequence negligence. And a majority of it happened during the Obama administration according to Pew Research and was basically Muslim terrorist in nature.

Agreed, but you know the Left and the MSM would crucify Trump if he did that. Highway funds would be less damaging to his purpose.
