Top justice department official Rod Rosenstein, who oversaw the inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in 2016, is planning to quit, US media reports.
The deputy attorney general reportedly made the decision to step down and was not forced out by the White House.
But he has been a frequent target of President Donald Trump's criticism.

When?
Exactly. When?
We all “plan to resign” someday.
It became clear he should move on once Barr assigned him to investigate Kentucky moonshine licensing.
I ‘planned to retire’ in 2000...retired in 2017.
Resign before he ends up in Gitmo?
I hope the NEW deputy AG is the guy standing in right now he seems solid but having been acting AG evidently can not be nominated for AG??? I am not sure WHY this rule is in place but perhaps he can move up at a later date!!!
Yep, so far he seems like a competent guy.
New Attorney General gets his own Deputy Attorney General is the usual pattern. It’s not unusual.
Same thing happens with the FBI Director and his Deputy Director.
The Associate AG spot was vacated by Rachel Brand in February 2018, and has been filled on an "acting" basis by Jesse Panuccio for almost a year now.
I get the sense that William Barr may end up being the only high-ranking DOJ official who is not working in an "acting" capacity. LOL.
Trump recently stated he likes people in positions who are in an “acting” capacity. They are easier and better to work with apparently. It makes sense. Those in permanently tend to have an attitude.
It’s good to see another corrupt deep stater leave. Maybe by the end of 2024 most of them will be history. Sad that it takes that long but at least it’s getting done.
I thought that Mathew Whitaker was the associate AG, if not where did he come from to be acting AG????
An Acting AG can be nominated for the permanent AG job, providing he steps aside from the Acting AG job first.
Several past Acting AGs later became permanent AG.
Is this true - ‘Acting’ does not need to be confirmed by the Senate? and ‘acting’ can be fired easily? Might be just that.
‘Acting’ does not need to be confirmed by the Senate. ‘Acting’ Executives have time limits, up to 210 days, unless Congress approves.
“I thought that Mathew Whitaker was the associate AG, if not where did he come from to be acting AG?”
He was Chief of Staff for AG Sessions for a year, so he was working everything that the AG was.
Whitaker was appointed in an acting capacity under the terms of a convoluted Federal succession law that was passed in the late 1990s. That law which allows the president to appoint a temporary successor to a Federal office without Senate confirmation for a limited period of time, as long as the person is already holding another senior-level post.
i just can’t trust him, based on a number of news reports...
hard to tell what’s really going on with the slanted news we get but if he goes and Mueller’s witch hunt is shut down, please please PDJT.. it WILL help the country a lot
