The biggest environmental scare story of 2018 was plastic pollution in the oceans. (It was also, as we shall see spoiler alert the years biggest lie )
From BBCs Blue Planet II to a special issue of National Geographic to a crusading campaign by the Daily Mail to CNN, the story was rarely out of the media. Celebrities from Chris Hemsworth to Cara Delevinge leapt on to the virtue signalling bandwagon. So did politicians such as UK Secretary of the State for the Environment Michael Gove and the European Parliament and US Congress, all announcing new legislation to deal with this alleged scourge.
Suddenly, plastic drinking straws became public enemy number one. No enlightened member of the chatterati could sip a cocktail ever again without pangs of guilt. Nor could they even clean their ears without a shiver of horror at the thought that todays waxy cotton bud might be tomorrows obstruction in the nostril of a baby sea turtle.

Even if the are mountains of it...bury it in a land fill. Not a big deal.
Mostly China does not seem interested in burring any of it - just let the wind and weather as well as the odd poor scavenger kid take care of it. If some blows into the water - just that much more room in their open waste dumps - many of which ar situated on a river bank or ocean shore.
China, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Agreed, I have never met a conservative who likes to see garbage on the beach or anywhere else for that matter.
While I'm sure the extent of the problem is exaggerated it is an ACTUAL problem that sound and reasonable people can work to improve.
Glo-bull warming/climate change is nothing but a man made fraud.
I prefer paper to plastic at the store anyway.
I don’t know if the “science is settled” regarding what I read regarding plastics in the environment. But, doesn’t burying it in a landfill eventually cause it to leach into the water supply, etc.. I don’t know about you, but, I’d prefer not to drink water with plastic byproducts in it.
The plastic threat is real, but far oversold by the lefty greens. When the plastics have broken down to tiny particles and are concentrated by wind and tides, many filter feeding organisms (including forage fish like anchovies, sardines and menhaden) can starve to death with full bellies from ingesting the plastic.
They probably believe the birds are willing martyrs on the altar of their global warming religion. They really are that sick.
STOP!!!!! All this garbage in the oceans have been caused by India and China....I do not say that every country doesn’t add to it.....But India and China are the worst offenders....carry on.
No. It doesn’t leach. In the USA they are sealed...for other reasons. Come off the cliff edge . ..you will be OK.
