The mother of Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa college student who was allegedly murdered earlier this year by an immigrant residing the U.S. illegally, adopted the child of Mexican immigrants who fled town after the man accused of killing her daughter was arrested. Laura Calderwood told The Washington Post in an interview published Friday that she had taken in Ulises Felix, 17, after his parents fled town following Cristhian Bahena Rivera's arrest... The Post reported that Felix's parents had worked alongside Rivera at the same dairy farm for years. Felix told the paper that his parents "took care of" Rivera "for a while," adding that his mother fed him every day. “He was so busy sending money back to his parents, trying to help them build a house," Felix said.

The thing is, I don’t want this to happen to my children or grandchildren. Yes, I know we have some of our own citizens that commit heinous crimes, but why bring in even more criminals?

Mollie's younger brother, Scott, who attended the same school as Felix and was friends with the teen, immediately said he could stay in his mother's spare bedroom.
After briefly grappling with the decision, Calderwood, 55, concluded that her late daughter, who in life was welcoming to all and supportive of the rights of immigrants, would have wanted her to help Felix.
Over the course of the last few months, Calderwood has learned that her young houseguest's ties to Rivera were closer than first thought: Felix's female cousin was the mother of the 24-year-old suspected killer's young daughter.
Felix also revealed to Calderwood that both of Rivera's parents were in Mexico, and that before the arrest, Felix's mother had taken it upon herself to look after him and feed him every night, since he had almost no other family in Iowa.

Wasn’t the farm owner a County Republican Chairman or something like that and had to resign, if I remember correctly. I think I also remember that the farm owner didn’t use the e-verify system.
The killer was 24, so he couldn't be the 17-year-old's father, but the 17-year-old's parents knew the killer and left town after he was arrested.

Yes. Yarrabee Farm dairy is owned by the prominent Lang family. They first tried to say they used e-verify but then had to admit they didn’t or some such hooey. Bottom line, they lied and knew he and the rest of their employees are illegal. They give their employees housing, too. A neighbor said it was a “revolving door” of illegals working and living there. Probably the same at other dairies around there. Haven’t heard of ICE doing raids, sigh.

Yes, he is a Republican. He claimed he used e-verify but who knows what ID he ran through it. I think I remember the guy had fake documents. Maybe using another name?
