I remember when 0.10 was the limit, and you could buy 3.2% beer at 18 years of age.

The 0.10 limit has a much better correlation with the increased likelihood to be involved in an accident than lower limits do. But cities like their income any way they can take it.

When I lived in UAE I liked the 0.0 BAC law. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. Plus, drivers there are bad enough without being impaired by alcohol.

I’ve noticed Uber & Lyft have reduced some of this in my area. Here in NJ they are actually trying to loosen DUI laws that are already very lax; they want driving to and from work to be exempt from license suspensions (though you’ll have the breathalyzer gadget in your car). DUI isn’t even a misdemeanor in NJ; it is a driving offense.

“Build a bar in your house.”

Some people started doing that when smoking was banned; saved a lot on their drinks as well.

My friend’s dad got busted riding a motorcycle with a .32 BAC. I always found that incredible, but these folks put him to shame.

More words of wisdom from Gilbert Shelton. I acquired the FFFB Omnibus a while ago, but haven’t really had time to give it the perusal it deserves.

Don’t drink and drive. No treason to. Have a designated driver or call Lyft or drink at home

It’s lowering our sociality where public transportation is non-existent.

Well, since those are primarily Republican areas, it's probably just an opportunity to minimize what they see as sedition. :)

Asking an impaired person to estimate whether they are too impaired to operate a two ton high speed vehicle sharing a roadway shared with people I love is not a viable proposition.

The correct alcohol level to drive is zero. Similar to carrying a weapon, if I’m packing, no alcohol at all, same with driving.

Indonesia is not on the list. In Bali you can have open containers in a car (or on a scooter). There are businesses there that rent eskies (coolers) for slightly more than the cost of beer they also supply. As for accidents they are always the foreigners fault anyway.

Anyone who believes DUI as currently constituted is about safety is a fool. Anyone who repeats it is a liar.

One of my children is a prosecutor with the district attorney's office. He started out doing DUI. He said that DUI roadblocks are the most inefficient use of LEO and that the primary purpose is to raise revenue through state and federal grants. He said that the typical roadblock requires 15 to 20 police officers over four to eight hours that might result in five arrests -- usually someone who went out to dinner, admitted to having two glasses of wine, and blew a .06 even though they show no visible signs of impairment. According to my son, the more effective approach is for those 15 to 20 LEO to patrol the roads looking for signs of impairment like repeatedly crossing the center line, driving to fast (or slow), or forgetting to turn on the headlights.

“Focus on impairment = using a subjective standard not an objective one.

It’s been the goal all along and not just in Utah. BAC levels were untethered from medical science long ago...the rest is merely state greed and control freakery.

Anyone who believes DUI as currently constituted is about safety is a fool. Anyone who repeats it is a liar.”

All states have the “impaired” catch all now. That’s because you can be using other substances as well as alcohol. An officer can always judge that you are too impaired to drive.
Even “too tired” can be a reason.

The only objective field tests that they have are for alcohol. Pretty much every other type of impairment determination is a judgement call in the field.

Get caught with a DUI in any state and you will loose your Utah multi state concealed carry permit.
