Restaurants, bars and tourism officials say Utahns should not shy away from partying or eating out because of the state’s new toughest-in-the-nation drunken driving law when it takes effect in just over two weeks on Dec. 30. They stress two reasons: The Utah Highway Patrol and police say the new law won’t change how they enforce DUI laws, with their focus on impairment rather than blood-alcohol levels; and Utah has plenty of ride-sharing and public transportation options to get people home safely if they drink too much.

Try driving with ANY BAC in most Muslim countries. The United Arab Emirates is 0.00 as are many Islamic nations. As a matter of fact, most nations have 0.05 or lower:

By the logic of lowering BAC to save lives, the best thing to do is for all nations & states to make 0.00 mandatory.

.05 is what it is in Sweden
It’s a hard state to buy liquor in, as I recall.
You could not buy it anywhere but at some state sponsored places and at bars you buy the set up. Granted, this was 50 years ago. Has it changed?

I notice that when my son and his friends go out for the evening, they plan and rent a hotel room in the city. Everyone chips in and they pub crawl then go back to the hotel. Interesting cultural change

Focus on impairment = using a subjective standard not an objective one.
It’s been the goal all along and not just in Utah. BAC levels were untethered from medical science long ago...the rest is merely state greed and control freakery.
Anyone who believes DUI as currently constituted is about safety is a fool. Anyone who repeats it is a liar.
Sweden is 0.02.
Switzerland is 0.01.
CDC wants to lower it to 0.05 nationally and Utah had been pushing for 0.03.

It’s lowering our sociality where public transportation is non-existent. Fewer and fewer get togethers with drinking (which most people like to do).
I want breathalyzer checks of all congresscritters and senators entering all sessions. They’re doing our work, better not be RUI (representing under the influence)!
