Johnson & Johnson shares sank 8% Friday after Reuters reported that the pharmaceutical giant knew for decades that its baby powder contained asbestos.
Reuters reviewed documents, deposition, and trial testimony from at least 1971 to the early 2000s that it said showed powders and raw talc sometimes tested positively for small traces of asbestos.
Furthermore, "company executives, mine managers, scientists, doctors, and lawyers fretted over the problem and how to address it while failing to disclose it to regulators or the public," the Reuters reporter Lisa Girion wrote.
Johnson & Johnson issued a statement on Friday in response to the report, calling the article false and saying that its baby powder is "safe and asbestos-free."
This is not the first time the company, which also manufactures medical devices, has come under fire for issues related to its baby powder.

Just simply amazing!
Short, medium, or long fiber asbestos? The health implications vary wildly between the three.
“Just simply amazing!”
What is ‘amazing’?
Defines “Truly F*****!”
Just more Monolithic Media hyperbole, you think?
Unknown at this time...........lawyers will tell us on TV in their ads, though I’m sure...............
“If YOU USED JOHNSON’S BABY POWDER......
That no class action lawyer hired a lab to check...at least now they don’t have to hire a lab!
DK
This is guilt by association.
Asbestos causes cancer (lung) if inhaled for a long time. The baby powder kerfuffle is about cervical cancer.
So unless you breathe via your va-jay-jay. This has no scientific Merit.
Good one
For baby powder applied externally to make it to the cervix, it would have to swim upstream.
Corn starch, or cornstarch if you prefer. Keeps things dry and sliding.
Johnson & Johnson, funding leftist causes since... forever... are now going to get eaten alive by the very leftists people groups they sponsored for decades.
Also, at what levels? They say "trace" amounts. Is it irrelevant and minuscule parts per billion? I don't want to defend anyone, but just say "asbestos" and you have just set off a $ half billion scramble by ambulance chasers, fueled by a stupid and sensationalist media. No wonder much of US big business are progressives and crony-capitalists. Better to be friends with the deep state, then not.
Many consumer products face the same issues. Most breads and breakfast cereals contain trace amounts of glyphosate, the new legal-environmental bogeyman of the left. Most honey contains traces of same, and animal antibiotics. The list goes on and on.
Amazing their management could be so stupid thinking they could hide this.
Yep. That company’s oppressive think right culture is going to bite them back.
Didn’t that used to be on the curtains at the movies back in the day?
Helps get the wax residue off when you wax your car too.
