They make beds in inns across the country. They pick oranges in Florida, strawberries in California and vegetables in Ohio. And they have built new subdivisions in Phoenix, Atlanta and Charlotte.
For years, policymakers have talked about shutting off the influx of undocumented workers. But the economy has grown to rely on them.
Ending illegal immigration, say many of those who have studied the issue, could mean that American workers would lose their jobs, companies would close and the economy would contract.

So in other words we are defeated, the migrant invaders have won. Eisenhower did deport a few. Does that count?
At the store where I work, they come in with three and four tax exemptions (kids)climbing all over everything, and the parents don’t know five words of English. They flash a cellphone in front of my face which has translated what they spoke into it in Chicken Spanish into a text message in English. You can thank Microsoft and the Chinese and whoever else in Silicon Valley for being the enablers of this massive unfrickingbelievable invasion.
“You CANNOT deport every single illegal immigrant in this country. Its just not possible”
YES. IT. IS...All 50 million of them and their anchor babies too. Otherwise, we’ll be norte Mexico in a decade or two.
Have we tried? Has there been any serious effort to deport them?
The reason we have this problem is because we keep accepting the excuse they're here so we should just let them stay.
“Jobs Americans Won’t Do Anymore”- GW Bush
Cut way back on welfare and food stamps and you would see those jobs filled with legal Americans. It would save a ton of tax money, create a more responsible citizenry and eliminate “para espanol, oprima dos”.
This is, of course, nonsense.
There are millions of Americans who are currently choosing to not work (many supported by foolishly indulgent parents). So many of these citizens would benefit from lower wage, entry level jobs. Illegals are stealing jobs, that's that.
Oh, and what about labor unions?
Shouldn't the Union gangsters be more about the jobs thefts from union members by non-union illegals?
“An act of love” - ‘Jeb’ Bush
Re If they are truly needed to do these jobs, they should be given work permits so they could work legally.

But then they would be covered by minimum wage laws, minimum safety standards, and employers would have to pay various taxes and disability. How inconvenient.
The left loves diversity in other people’s neighborhoods.
It’s impossible. It is too tough. Too tough.
Socially impossible. It just is. You wanna see more airport protests like last year?
That’s what you’ll get. Tough luck.
The fact is that most Americans do not want to do those jobs.
Period. Period. Americans are taught to pursue a college or a HVAC degree or something to have a good paying job.
It’s just facts.
Perhaps these companies need new business models other than those that having tax payers subsidize their employees via the safety net.
#15. The US had a “visiting workers” visa program during WW2 which did just what you suggested in terms of allowing foreign workers to enter the US, under a work contract arrangement.
The worked the “garden crops” on the East Coast, the apple picking seasons all over the country, esp. the NW regions, I think some of the sugar cane areas of Louisiana (which existed back then), citrus fruit in Florida, and as miners esp. in the SW.
Most miners came from Mexico while East Coast workers came from Jamaica and some other smaller islands
This was due to the shortage of American men needed for the war effort.
While the working conditions often were not very good (which was a shame on us), the average worker made enough money to return home and have a much better standard of living than many of his neighbors (and could buy a land plot for their own farming, or a truck, set up a small business, etc).
This would help resolve a part of the illegal immigrants issues (a let the workers take their earnings home to build up their country). I assume that they would also pay taxes and possibly Social Security. It would all be determined by the terms of their contract between private companies under the guidance of the US Government and, as in the case of at least Mexico, with their government.
“Family Values Don’t Stop at the Rio Grande”- GW Bush
So 8 million are working illegally...and 25 million are collecting welfare illegally.
Liberalism = NIMBY.
Good grief, I think I’ll just live in Japan for the foreseeable future for the US is going to hell.
“So 8 million are working illegally...and 25 million are collecting welfare illegally.”
And voting for demoncrats illegally, too.
What a country, eh?
But put in the right legal moves and policies, and many will self-deport.
The NY Times has been spouting this same crap for years. It is not just an economic issue. In fact it is more a cultural and sovereignty issue that if not corrected will ultimately destroy us.
