This Season’s Guilty Pleasure: Binge-Watching Hallmark Christmas Movies
Wall Street Journal ^ | Nov 29 2018 | Katherine Bindley

Every weekend around this time of year, the living-room TV in Tim Gates’s Pittsburgh home is tuned to the Hallmark Channel. His wife and teenage daughter watch the network’s original Christmas movies all day long.

Mr. Gates usually sits down and teases them about the movies, which feature predictable plotlines and tropes. “Next thing I know, I’m sucked in for a half-hour, 45 minutes,” he says.

Why must it be prefaced as “guilty?”

I think the word “guilty” is used to try to head off the mocking and ridicule others dish out because they know they can get away with it, and yes, it is very rude and childish. Just look at Hollywood and the nasty stuff they say about Trump, they do it because they can. They would never have said that stuff about Obama because they couldn’t get away with it.

Over the years, I have read many a post from people terribly upset that Sarah Palin and Trump had .....wait for it ......reality tv shows. I honestly don’t know what issue these folks had for an Alaskan travel show, or a show where contestants competed in producing a product for a large company. But the perpetually panties in a knot crowd continued to whine and complain, because they could.

It is just like the folks who go from thread to thread calling other freepers cultists, or believers. They do it, because they can.

In the end, the movies or shows one chooses to watch, or the stuff they want to read, really doesn’t effect others But some, are just such drama queens, they can’t help themselves in making sure that YOU know, that is not what they would be watching or reading.

Hope this helps

And often there is a famous country singer, actor, or actress escaping the limelight.

Um, you forgot the group of movies involving a prince of some random country, My wife has had a couple of those on at some point.

Why always a dog? Why not a cat?

Because no one really likes cats, and they aren't screen friendly. Most people love dogs, they're easy to work with, and much more relateable/cuddly.

As the Director of a county shelter I assure you I have no bias for dogs versus cats. I have just never seen one with a cat in it.

By the way, I never said it but, I actually like these movies because they do bring back memories and spark a time when Christmas was more about love than department stores versus Amazon.

Oh yeah, they have really started to scream about Hallmark in the last couple of years as they have gotten more popular.

Now that they are making their own series they are really taking heat.

I love some of their cozy murder mysteries, "Signed, Sealed and Delivered" was good fun.

In fact except for a very few prime time shows our TV is tuned to Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, Cozi, MeTV or a food show.

It is nice not to be assaulted with "teaching moments" that are a direct violation of our values and reality.

“Um, you forgot the group of movies involving a prince of some random country”

Ah yes, the prince that falls in love with the commoner girl (usually from America), of whom the queen mother disapproves.

I do like the movies, for the same reason everyone else does, they are wholesome, old fashioned, and family oriented. I also like UPtv as they seem to have a lot of family stuff on there as well.

tonight I’m watching a TBN movie.....its pretty good...

Despite the false doctrine of TBN founders, they used to have some fairly good movies you could watch for free. Hardly any now.

But if you get an offer for a free month of Amazon prime, you can find a few worthy Christian movies for free (legal) viewing, thank God. I saw "Rust " which was pretty well-done overall.
