President Trump is dismissing the importance of paying down the national debt, saying he wont be in office to take blame for the nation's fiscal crisis when it becomes even more unsustainable, according to a report Wednesday.
The national debt sits at $21 trillion and counting. As a candidate, when the national debt was $19 trillion, Trump promised to erase the entire debt over a period of eight years.
Senior administration officials showed Trump charts and graphics in early 2017 that illustrated a hockey stick spike in the debt in the coming years. Trump said the data showed the national debt would only become untenable after he left office, the Daily Beast reported.
Yeah, but I wont be here, Trump said.
People close to the president told the news outlet that the national debt never actually bothered Trump, despite his public comments about it.
I never once heard him talk about the debt, one former White House official said.
White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said its also the responsibility of Congress to cut back on spending.
While the president has and will continue to do everything in his power to rein in Washingtons out-of-control spending, the Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse, and its time for them to work with this president to reduce the debt, he said.

agreed.
No, we Can't simply GROW our way out of the deficit. The world economy, and our economy is not that simple. There are recessions. We grow. We shrink. Government WILL NOT sit idly by at the same size for 50 years. Should we? OF COURSE! I would be all for that. It WILL NOT happen. I am a realist...not a pie in the sky optimist.
I was the resource advisor and financial manager for my military unit, on top of wearing many other hats. My budget was stagnant for 4 years. ZERO growth. It was painful. Everything else went up....and I was expected to keep up the same OPS tempo.
And it was horrible. And we are the more patriotic branch of government. We saluted and did it. The equipment failed. We put people at risk (unnecessarily). Had Trump not increased the DoD budget (which you don't want)...we would continue down the same path...for 20...50 years? That is NOT possible. It is IMPOSSIBLE.
Meanwhile...project out inflation. Go back, if you can, to 1968 and see what the price of this and that cost in 1968 and ask my unit to do the job.
So again...we can't and we won't....not without CUTS somewhere.
And that won't happen. It CANNOT be done in a REAL world. In Eutopia maybe. Not here in our system. If you think it can...again...you've never worked for the government in any sort of managerial capacity and crunched the numbers...had people's lives depend on you...and had to complete the mission.
All you've ever had to deal with is 1) The private sector or 2) theory.
If there is no political will to hold spending flat then certainly there is no political to cut year over year. Are you mentally all there?
Me: "Poor Tom can't walk now that he has MS.
You: "Well then if Tom can't walk then we will just teach him to run.
Me: "You are crazy."
LOL...cutting government spending and HOLDING the departments to the same level of spending are TWO different things. If you are talking about the ENTIRE budget...then YES. That means what...CUTTING somewhere. Someone HAS to be CUT (right? right.)
How hard is this to comprehend? If you want the overall level of government spending to remain the same...that is impossible for EVERY department. That means some departments will HAVE TO BE cut. There is nothing insane about it.
You are not understanding what I am saying.
Now, you tell me which governmental agency is going to be CUT. There is ZERO way to take government...the way it is...and tell everyone "your budget will remain the same size for 20 - 50 years." THAT is what is insane.
No COLA adjustments for retirees. No increase for the military. No raises for the military. Prices increase. Inflation. Etc.
You must CUT somewhere in order to INCREASE the spending for cost of living and inflation in some of those necessary, constitutional agencies. THAT is my point.
So...where do you CUT?
Read the whole story. Anonymous source. 2017. It didn’t happen. Full stop.
The news doesn’t get faker.
Interesting. Well, she had all the scuttlebutt on Ferris.
And in the real world neither party is going to do much about it. And if they did they would probably be voted out. So, as I said, the best thing Trump can do about it is grow the economy.
In other words, kick the can down the road. Trump has said that much. Tyranny is upon us, and nothing we can do. Another revolution is the only recourse.
