Protests call for Macrons resignation as France comes to the brink of state of emergency
French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday would not rule out imposing a state of emergency as nationwide economic protests turned violent in the capital, Paris. Macron was forced to fly home from the G-20 summit in Argentina for an emergency huddle with advisers on how to quell the worst civil unrest to grip the City of Light in a decade. Thousands have taken to the streets, with some torching cars and scrawling anti-government graffiti on cultural icons such as the Arc de Triomphe. Macron, 40, was greeted with boos and chants of Macron resign as he surveyed damage on the 2-century-old monument to Frances war dead Sunday. Inside the monument, the La Marseillaise statue by François Rude commemorating the French Revolution was defaced by protesters, who smashed a likeness of the Revolutions allegorical icon, Marianne.

Not being terribly familiar with the scale and scope of French “riots” how serious is this?
I mean we’ve seen riots over $300 increases in university fees in the past and seemingly other trivial tax issues by American standards.
Is this that much more widespread and serious? I understand it’s linked left and right populist groups in a mutual hatred and that alone seems to make it more dangerous.
Resigning is not the answer. There is no vice-president to step into his shoes.
He needs to reverse course and stop trying to eliminate the use of petroleum products and to turn *slam into a warm, kind religion that is compatible with French values.
I’m surprised France still has a few Patriots still alive.
Macron would rather kill his own people than change his policy.
Riot-wise, they mostly burn tires in the road....burn cars....confronting cops. The issue here is that probably half the cops agree on the wrong way that the diesel tax is being applied, and probably won’t be aggressive putting down the riot.
What I would worry about....if this continues through spring of 2019, you have the EU election coming up in Europe, and it could flip 50-percent of the votes to a right-wing party (anti-Macron), and that’s a serious thing to allow to brew.
But he can’t really step back and take the gas/diesel tax off the shelf without looking very weak.
An experienced political figure would have implemented this in three or four steps....over five years. Whoever led him into this decision (29 cents per gallon of diesel going up)....really invited trouble.
With over 80% support among French citizens, the gilets jaunes (yellow jacket movement) is growing exponentially stronger and now has the support of over 75% of the fire and police force.
Macron refuses to back down from his tyrannical & globalist rule.
This movement has all of the makings of a Révolution. The French want their country back.
You can’t help but wonder why this isn’t being covered more by the MSM?

“how serious is this?”
Must be pretty bad if they took time away from their TWO MONTH LONG annual vacations to do it.

Rioting while wearing safety vests, very interesting. Well, france is know for starting a new fashion trends. lol
This is why a EU army is needed...to suppress the little people....
$6.45 U.S. dollar per gallon of diesel equivalent, per today’s exchange rate?
The yellow-vest movement has crossed the border to three other EU block countries.
Makes one think which side the Police are on.
Those bright vests make great targets for SWAT teams.
In one of the videos it appears Police & Rioters working together to extract people from their cars that wouldn’t ‘stop’ for the rioters in the roadway.
He self-confident and impatient.
Right you are. Macron might be hesitant to send French troops in, as they might side with their fellow Frenchmen. But with an EU army in place, Macron could ask for units made up of, say, Dutch or Swedish soldiers.
And of course these guys are always available. Just no swastikas this time, please. Replace it with the EU symbol.
The next time, the “German” troops will be Muslims. Just as Hitler would have preferred.
“cant help but wonder why this isnt being covered more by the MSM?”
Because it doesn’t make Trump look bad.
And, Trump and Macron sparred a bit verbally so it could even make Trump look good or right.
The Press loves to say how unpopular Trump is.
Yet, you sure don’t see this kind of rioting here against Trump, that you see against Macron.
