Veteran leftist Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office as Mexican president on Saturday, vowing to see off a “rapacious” elite in a country struggling with corruption, chronic poverty and gang violence on the doorstep of the United States.
Backed by a gigantic Mexican flag, the 65-year-old took the oath of office in the lower house of Congress, pledging to bring about a “radical” rebirth of Mexico to overturn what he called a disastrous legacy of decades of “neo-liberal” governments.
“The government will no longer be a committee at the service of a rapacious minority,” said the new president, who is often nicknamed AMLO. Nor would the government, he said, be a “simple facilitator of pillaging, as it has been.”
López Obrador later addressed a massive crowd of supporters in the heart of the capital, promising to put Mexico’s sizeable indigenous minority first in his drive to root out inequality.
A major challenge facing the new leader is managing relations with Mexico’s top trading partner, the United States, after repeated broadsides by President Donald Trump against Mexico over illegal immigrants crossing the U.S. border. …

Actually, Mexico’s constitution looks a lot like constitutions conceived by the Bolsheviks, although there are some parallels to the US Constitution but with caveats. There are no “negative liberties”, it has Marxian free compulsory education (and forbids any church-affiliated personnel or organizations to teach therein), it limits freedom of speech and expression as well as putting limits on the rights to bear arms, ad nauseam. Also, all acts of religious worship are restricted by constitutional directive to those houses of worship.

The descendants of the Mayan and Aztec population (and several other Indian Nations) that lived in Mexico before the Spanish came.
There are several millions of Native Americans in Mexico who do not speak Spanish as their native language. Many do not speak Spanish at all.
They are at the bottom of the social order in Mexico. Mestizos (mixed Indian and European ancestry) are in the middle. The elites are mostly European-descended from Spanish, German, and Irish backgrounds.
The Mexicans that we see crossing the border are mostly from the Mestizo groups.
The White Elite run Mexico, they won’t like this.
Unfortunately as a hard core socialist he will replace it with something even worse. If one wants to see the future of Mexico, just look at Venezuela, the failed state.

Yes, Carlos Slim is the epitome of crony capitalism and rampant corruption of government and business in Mexico. When he is gone, he will replaced by something far worse, tyrannical socialism.
