South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott announced Thursday he will oppose embattled judicial nominee Thomas Farr, in a reversal of his position a day earlier that seemingly ends the nominee's chances for now amid fierce criticism by civil rights groups.
Democratic lawmakers and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) have long cited Farr's work on the campaigns of North Carolina Republican Sen. Jesse Helms in 1984 and 1990. Farr was first nominated to the federal court in the Eastern District of North Carolina by former President George W. Bush in 2006, but never received a confirmation vote.
Farr was specifically criticized at the time for allegedly working on the Helms campaign's behalf to distribute 120,000 postcards, primarily to black voters, to discourage voting, something he denied knowing anything about.

Scott is getting some really bad advice from beltway consultants. He does not strike me as a leader in anyway. He’s an old school go along, get along GOPe careerist with a nice tan. Nothing more, nothing less.
So now everyone knows Scott is a weak link who can be easily Guilt Tripped. What happened?
Did some young black women ‘trap’ him in an elevator for a stern lecture? Their heads bobbing, their index fingers pointing?
It sure work with Jeff Flake during the Brett Trials.
Scott is really pushing the “prison reform” nonsense. I suspect he got a negative from the White House and is doing this out of spite.
All SC elected are Cheap Labor Express stooges.
Beltway GOPe vote trading has started for the next Congress. We get Graham on board and “lose” Scott. So typical.
The failure to gain more than two seats is already showing what’s ahead for the next two years in the Senate by Scott signaling with this move that he’s going to join the RNO Resistance bloc of Romney, Collins, and Murkowski.

This, from the people that made Grand Wizard Big Poobah-Dragon Robert Byrd the longest serving US Senator evah. Alllrighty then.
It would not surprise me if Scott is considering jumping to the Democrat party as one of their new fake “conservative” Senators. He’s probably got a lifetime appointment from SC given his skin color if he runs as a centrist Democrat.
Can he be put back to Jan?
Can he be put back to Jan?
Sure. But then another judge has to wait to be confirmed. And on the job time is the rarest thing in the US Senate. They hardly ever at work and take forever to do anything.
I thought some prison reform was already underway.
Is the president not authorizing enough felons be released from jail quickly enough to please Tim?
Hold your horses Tim Scott.
A lot of folks are stamping their feet about their own pet projects. Ann Coulter won’t let up about The Wall taking so long, for one.
South Carolina: Announce your opposition to Tim Scott!
Good point!
Tim Scott has always been a lightweight. Best I can say is he gives McConnell no problems on his judge nominees....except for this one. I guess the pressure was too strong from The Bruthas.
Since Congress basically does NOTHING useful these days best thing we can do is get solid judges into the high Federal Courts. For this each Republican Senator is crucial.

Perhaps the White House said “prison reform” is on hold due Senate time wasted during Flake’s tantrum? It simply should not a priority in the lame duck. There is limited time and other issues like judge confirmation and the wall far outweigh GOP Senator pet projects.
Scott is tantruming here and likely does not want to offend Democrat interest groups given his potential party switch. Sad to see the end of another TEA Party star.

This isn’t the first time. His name has come up on other judges, IIRC.

But not a word about the Dem’s putting a KKK Kleagle on a pedestal for decadges, worshipping him as if he were a hero.
South Carolina, like so many other states, could do better. But, when you have the likes of Graham and Sanford to compare to, it’s not saying much. And then you snub Arrington, as well, giving the Dem’s another seat at the table. RINO, she may be, but at least she’ll vote with the President at least 50% of the time or more. The Dem is 100% against, ALL THE TIME.
Are the RINOs like Scott completely incapable of seeing down the road in a few years?
Predictably pathetic stereotype, sad to say.
