Embarrassed Putin may retaliate after Trump cancels meeting, experts say

Russian President Vladimir Putin may retaliate after President Trump canceled a weekend meeting in Argentina over Russia’s detention of Ukrainian sailors, experts said after the surprise announcement Thursday.

About an hour after saying he "probably" would meet Putin at the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Trump tweeted that he would cancel the meeting “[b]ased on the fact that the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine,” surprising critics who accused him of being soft on Putin.

But the snub — the second this month, after a Paris meeting also was scrapped — may provoke Putin in the near-term, rather than steer his actions toward U.S. interests, experts say.

“Watch for prolonging the detention of the Ukrainian sailors and ships,” said Alexander Vershbow, U.S. ambassador to Russia during Putin’s early years in power, from 2001 to 2005.

Whatever Trump does will be too soft or too hard and will never be the right thing....see how that works with liberals? It’s done to fit their agenda...

Putin's a vicious little dick, but he's limited in what he can do. He's not going to nuke us, and their economy is not big enough to threaten us (if it were listed among our individual states, it would be fourth largest) in any meaningful way.

Let him piss and moan, Russia is chubby France.

Retaliate for what.

Nobody owes another world leader a private meeting.

Sounds to me like Trump is telling Putin, “Want to meet with me, return those ships and sailors pronto”.

“Cause otherwise you’re making a Yuge mistake! Bigly! Sad, a disaster”

EXACTLY
Which does not make it “news”.

But will be sufficient for the MSM to turn it into FAKE news by 5 p.m. today.

Putin acted like a stupid kid messing with those Ukraine boats. A Navy isn’t a toy- be an adult at least.

Putin stole territory including the port Sevastopol from the Ukraine and built a bridge between the stolen territory and Russia over a narrow strait between the Black See and the Sea of Azov. He then declared that the entire strait is Russian water and Ukrainian ships (which have ports on the Sea Of Azov) must ask for permission to pass. In other words, he's put up an blockade that cut off all Ukrainian shipping and gets to decide who can pass in violation of recognized boundaries. It's a thug move.

Now he's seized those naval ships to emphasize that he stole that land fair and square and he controls that water and Ukraine better not try to say otherwise or he'll pop them like pimple. That's it. It's a bullying move.

In the end, the port of Sevastopol is never going back to Ukraine, at least not without a perpetual lease or something like it being given to Russia. That's what this is all about. Obama looked the other way when Russia seized it in 2014, now short of military intervention there's isn't much that can be done to get them out.

Why should the USA play nice with an a**hole who invaded another country and now he’s acting like the Iranians capturing sailors and forcing them to make BS confessions on TV?

Putin once had my respect but this whole Ukrainian adventure has reduced him to no more than a street thug in my eyes. No reason why our POTUS should be nice to this creep.

I’m much more interested in whether Trump meets with MBS and or Erdogan than I am Putin. Ukraine is a sideshow compared to the drama around Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

I’ll laugh if its Putin who sits down with both men, rather than Trump.

Do more research on this before committing to the MSM narrative. Putin is a thug, sure, but look also at what has happened in Ukraine's recent history and our meddling in their political affairs and engineering the defeat of their previously elected government. They have now a leader installed by our State Dept and Hillary Clinton in order to feather the nests of the globalists. You can see the Biden family is being rewarded as a result of the coup. Someone is trying to provoke a war here, and it isn't necessarily Putin.

Poroshenko supported Hillary, colluded with her, and put Trump on the Enemies of Ukraine list. Now, Trump is doing what Poroshenko & NeoCons wants. Not in our national interests.

Sevastopol has been a Russian navy base since about the 1790s. The British fought the Crimean War there in the mid-1800s, the goal of that war was to invade and drive the Russians out of Crimea. He didn’t invade and steal anything. A party literally inspired and owing loyalty to the Third Reich took over Ukraine. Their clear intent was to turn that 200 plus your navy base over to Nato. That would be similar to us turning over Norfolk Navy Base. This wasn’t Putin invading Ukraine, this was a provoked reaction as NATO grabbed its final nation in it’s drive east to put them literally on the Russian border. And think about one other thing, seizing Kiev in a coup doesn’t give you the right to rule all of Ukraine, anymore than a pussy hat, BLM, antifa mob seizing DC would give them the right to rule all of the United States. When you seize the government in a coup, everybody else in the territory has the same right to grab what they can. And for the same exact reasons. A coup is outside the law.

And nobody says Trump should be nice to him. But because of a border squabble between Russia and Ukraine, now the United States cannot negotiate with Russia on things like nuclear weapons etc. You know, things that actually are American interests. And that was my point, apparently we cannot pursue American interest regarding Russia, unless Ukraine is in a happy condition with them.
