Teacher Evacuates Classroom Because Student Is Wearing MAGA Hat — Calls Kid an “Assh*le”

A teacher was caught on camera berating a student for wearing a Make America Great Again hat in class. The teacher lectures the classroom for several minutes.

Then at the three minute mark the teacher calls the student an “asshole” for wearing the hat.

This is hilarious. Nominally this about a student wearing a hat. Back in the day, if a teacher told you to take off a hat while in the school building you immediately complied or you were sent to the principals office (if not paddled on the spot) who gave you he choice of removing the hat or leaving the building.

Geeeez. This teacher decamps the entire class to a different class room rather then crack down on the student. Most of the video is this teacher’s passive aggressive lecture and his whining at the student about rules that are/are not enforced at times but not at others depending on the setting and social pressures,

The kid tries to make it about MAGA and the teacher doesn’t take the bait specifically.

Agree with MAGA or don’t agree but geesh, make u your mind be the adult and enforce the rules. The whole encounter should have lasted 45 seconds.

Kudos to the kid though! He smelled a wishy wishy mealy mouthed pajama boy and flushed him out. Well done.

I don’t get wearing hats inside or in a car on a cloudy day....... although it seems like a lot of folks do it. I was taught to never wear a hat inside.

After watching the video and listening to both the student and the teacher, I come away with one point. If the school rules are that no hats may be worn, then the student is wrong regardless of what his political views are. For the most part I think the teacher handled it fairly well up to the point he said he would remove the class from the student. The student should have been summarily removed from the classroom for disobeying (valid) school rules. And the teacher was totally wrong to imply that the student was an “asshole”.
I do not see this as a freedom of speech issue nor a left vs. right debate. This was an example of a student being petulant and “rebelling” against authority. You know, being a typical obnoxious teenager framed in the light of politics. I have seen it before. The 1960s and 70s.

In the late 1970’s when I was in HS, you were not allowed to wear a hat (any hat) inside the building DURING school hours.

Yes, the instructor is limp-wristed ball-gargler but the rules that were in place for many years were there for a reason.

If there is a no hat in class policy at the school then the kid was being an asshole and trying to start something. That being said, as the teacher, you don’t argue with the kid. You explain the school policy, tell him to remove the hat, and if he refuses you ask him to leave or if necessary have him removed. Either way as a teacher you do not engage in an argument with the student and you definitely don’t call him names.

I think the bigger take away from the video though was after his comment about wearing pink you had a girl in the class reply pink wasn’t racist. This infers that at least some students at this school, and she sounded white, equate Make America Great Again with being racists. It is sad when the idea that love of one’s country and a desire to do what’s in the best interest of it’s citizens is considered racist. Forget the hat and think about the ramifications of that.
