Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said Sunday he expects special counsel Robert Mueller's final report will be politically devastating for President Trump, but said he does not believe it will criminally implicate the president.
"I think the report is going to be devastating to the president. And I know that the presidents team is already working on a response to the report," Dershowitz said on ABC's "This Week."
"The critical questions are largely political," he added. "When I say devastating, I mean it's going to paint a picture that's going to be politically very devastating."
Dershowitz argued that Mueller is unlikely to accuse Trump of crime, but will instead lay out the facts of the case. He suggested that the president is more legally vulnerable in matters related to his business.
Dershowitz, who regularly appears on cable television and defends the president, said it remains to be seen whether acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker will make the special counsel's final report public. If he does, it will likely be released in tandem with a defense from the president's legal team, Dershowitz said.
Trump has repeatedly decried the Mueller investigation as a "witch hunt," and claimed that the special counsel and his team have conflicts of interest. He has not elaborated on the latter claim.
The president's legal team last week submitted written answers to some questions from Mueller, but Trump has indicated he is unlikely to sit for an in-person interview with the special counsel.
Mueller's investigation has thus far yielded four guilty pleas from former Trump associates, and he has obtained indictments against more than 20 Russian nationals for their alleged efforts to influence the 2016 election.
Politically devastating to a guy who is not political, checkmate! Trump will counter this idiots fake phony fraud report that wasted tax dollars you wait and see
Got it
Seems like a roundabout way of saying “I am relying on the indictment from Mr. Mueller, and I really don’t know anything more than what I read in the newspaper.”

Is that what Dip-Switch is saying? That's all they could come up with while wasting millions of our money?
Not at all all! You have nothing for which to apologize.
I was taking a shot at the pearl-clutching Concern Trolls.
My sardonic wit, though brilliant, does not always translate well via cyber forums.
Which is exactly what I’ve been saying all along. But do read the indictment. Mueller knows not only which Russian intelligence officers were accessing info, he knows which chairs they were sitting in when they did it. He has a lot of information.
I read the indictment when it first came out. Mueller et al should wonder why the GRU left so many breadcrumbs for them. They are certainly capable of cyber intrusions without leaving their fingerprints all over the place.
So much of the Biblical predictions have come true, it’s just silly to act like anyone not having the mark of the beast in their forehead or hand, will be able to buy or sell in the future. And I think near future...
I agree. The “Mark of the Beast” doesn’t necessarily mean a chip. It is compliance/surrender.
I’ve had people jump on me for saying they could freeze our bank accounts.
You’ll have folks criticize you right up until it happens, and many of them will agree with the reasons given.
I tell folks what has been predicted. I tell them that I cannot say it will happen for sure. I admonish them to watch for themselves, and if it happens consider it a fulfillment of prophecy, and time to wake up and be ready to be counted on the right side.
“...and time to wake up and be ready to be counted on the right side”.
Amen to that.
Trump has given us a reprieve allowing many to wake up for the bad to come.
After seeing what is going on in our nation, the days of being able to say that kind of thinking is crazy, has passed.
Yes, that time is long past.
Discernment is dead for most people.
Seems like it doesn’t it.
