Huge plumes of smoke were seen on one of France's most iconic streets today, as protesters burned large plywood sheets, chairs and other material in demonstrations against planned fuel hikes. A water cannon and rounds of teargas were also used by riot police against thousands of French 'Yellow Vest' fuel protesters in Paris today as the Champs Elysee was reduced to a battlefield. The grassroots movement is campaigning against a what is believes to be a general decline in living standards across the country, and the recent decision to raise fuel prices. The worst violence took place on the most famous avenue in the city where a huge crowd called for President Emmanuel Macron to resign.

Looks like some French are going Nationalist.
Tons of pictures at the link. Interesting. Just listened to the Revolutions Podcast that covered the period of the French Revolution. Parisians love those barricades. Used them back in the revolution. Using them now.
Well, I am a part of the resistance.
Besides if you live anywhere with:
1.. HUMIDITY
2..SNOW
You would be disqualified.
Besides I was born here! My family has been farming in Ventura County since mid-1800s when they moved here from Germany!
And, the Resistance is peeling back many of the “Road Diets”.
Its an apolitical grassroots mass movement that comes from all walks of life. Leftist, conservative, moderate - everyone in France feels left out of a political system in which they have no real voice and in which their backs are pressed to the wall.
Its an accumulation of many things but the fuel tax hikes was the final straw that broke the camels back. You have a government that doesnt care about the majority of people forcing them to pay more while they get less. People are fed up and making themselves heard.
They want change and they will be in the streets until they get it.
At this point, the only thing that can save California would be a purge of non-citizen voters. Think the Dems will be onboard with that? I commuted in LA County for 20 years......glad I dont have to deal anymore with the political decisions that hamper the hard working taxpayers. I sure do miss our activities there and the beauty of California though.
Time to hitch the donkey to the cart and sharpen Madame Guillotine!
Unifying everyone against Russia seems like the way they might go.
The elitists are more concerned with the illegals than they are the populace
ML/NJ
About 30 cents US on top of 20 cents last year. A gallon of diesel is about $6.20 US.
Politicians here had better be thankful the same didn’t happen here when they passed the cigarette tax with the money being targeted to pay for EVERYONE’s health insurance, a Smart A$$ asked “What would happen if everyone just quit smoking”?
Of course, no one had an (obvious) answer so it was on to the next question etc...
Remember R Limbaugh encouraging everyone to stop by the groups of huddled smokers and thanking them for providing all of US with health coverage?....
Nothin' like socialist elitists running the country to help out the "little guy", huh?
And <Macaroni says, “Shame on you for not kneeling before the yoke of Socialism.”.....
The video I watched last night (German TV news)....showed mostly guys, and they were between 18 and 30 years old. This isn’t a 16-to-18 year old short-lived stunt. I think Macron has a problem and the cops really don’t have that much enthusiasm to ‘settle’ this. They are just as much affected as the regular population.
Hope so.

France and Germany dream up ambitious EU reforms

Exactly what has happened here.
FReepers have been crying about "inflation" for more than a decade, but there's been little. What we've had is a rise in prices without a commensurate rise in pay...therefore, a "general decline in living standards."
Zer0 promised to fundamentally change the nation and he did. President Trump has been trying to correct this trend, but without the help of the GOP he has been left to battle the left on his own
How long before Pennsylvania Ave sees columns of smoke in protest of what Congress is/isn't doing?
Protesting Macron Antoinette? Ha Ha
The French haven't been worth a pinch of fecal matter since The Revolution, where they guillotined anyone with leadership skills, anyone more successful than their neighbors, anyone willing to strive and excel, anyone...
Did I post about this?
I’m 70. My family has been farming in Ventura since the mid-1800s. I, OTOH, have worked as an institution equities trader around 40 years.
I like LA. A lot. I like driving ... and I like driving sports cars. And I just bought a new house ... probably my last and I’m decorating, putting in wood floors and decorating in general. I wake to the sun ... NO SNOW, NO HUMIDITY for my whole life. I’m up on a hill with few neighbors.
I’m not leaving. There are things I would change, but it’s better than leaving.
