I do like the rather clumsy attempt to redefine both nationalism and patriotism - it’s all part of controlling the narrative and no longer even subtle. Nothing about this demand is subtle. Clearly Merkel and indeed, Brussels as well, were far more comfortable with an American President who was perfectly happy to be one of that great, cordial, international club that rules the world by self-acclamation. All that’s missing is the consent of the governed. In a world where the ruling class tells them what they are allowed to want, it won’t be a problem.

I bet all signs of Christianity would be gone in 5 years and Germany would be transitioning into speaking Arabic or whatever they speak in Iran in 10 years at the most.
