I would eat a country rat but not a city rat. City rats eat garbage and you have no idea what they have in them. A country rat that eats like any other game would be okay.

It has no etymological connection with the word goose. Historically, it has also been spelled "mungoose". The plural form is "mongooses", or, rarely, "mongeese". 8>)
I used to be a mangoose, women only, but I had to give it up. 8>)
