Its the First Amendment that Rutgers University history professor James Livingston can thank for avoiding punishment for posting on Facebook his hatred for white people.
He responded in anger when he found a restaurant in his Harlem neighborhood was too busy: OK, officially, I now hate white people. I am a white people, for Gods sake, but can we keep themusus out of my neighborhood?
Livingston said the restaurant was overrun with little Caucasian a-.
I hereby resign from my race.
His posts were noticed by news outlets, and members of the public complained to the university. Rutgers Office of Employment Equity then investigated and considered punishment.
However, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education wrote to Rutgers President Robert Barchi, arguing the diatribe was protected speech.
Barchi ordered a review and the school now has determined the speech was protected.
FIRE is pleased that Rutgers did the right thing and reversed the charge of racial discrimination against Professor Livingston, said Marieke Tuthill Beck-Coon, FIREs director of litigation. Any other result would have undermined the free speech and academic freedom rights of all Rutgers faculty members.
Barchi noted that few values are as important to the university as the protection of our First Amendment rights even when the speech we are protecting is insensitive and reckless.
Livingston said in a statement: Im relieved that my right to free speech and my academic freedom have been validated by this retraction, thanks to FIRE, the AAUP, and colleagues, who made this strange episode an issue to be debated and decided in public.
WND reported Facebook removed Livingstons post, citing its Community Standards on hate speech.

Well, then, hating anyone must be constitutional too.
On another note, all hate crimes laws need to go. People just don’t commit crimes out of love. Moreover, the motive is already a consideration for the seriousness of an accusation ... that’s enough.
Maybe he IDs as an AA. Like shawn ‘talcum X’ king or ray-shell dole-iz-all
This is the same mentality that leads to “humans are killing the planet. we should reduce the number of humans”.
If they’re that concerned, why don’t they start a trend.
Hey,if he killed them without a good reason fry him...absolutely.But you can’t execute the guy twice so why bother with the “hate crime” stuff?
My guess is that he's a renter, not a homeowner. He likes living in a diverse neighborhood, perhaps even an edgy neighborhood. (I.e., he's a urban liberal hipster thrill seeker.) He may be a pot smoker, may like a neighborhood where pot is one of the major food groups, and is afraid of neighbors that might turn him in, or at least disapprove of his habit. He certainly likes lower rents. He's comfortable where he is, and he's afraid that gentrification might raise his rent.
I live on Capitol Hill in DC. I've been here for 40 years. When I bought a house, I ended up just east of Lincoln Park. At the time, that far out (a mile from the Capitol Building), I was the speck of salt in the pepper shaker. I had great neighbors, all of them save one black. (One older white couple had stayed put after the riots instead of joining the white flight out of town.) It was a black middle class block, never a gangbanger block. It bleached out as it gentrified and the area is now predominately white.
As an experienced urbanite, my advice to the professor is to buy now if he hasn't already done so, and be a close observer. He does not need to be afraid of white people. They will not mug him. They may strike him as smug and arrogant. That, probably, is partly because the newcomers are much younger than he is, and he's not accepted that he's no longer young and hip. And some of it is that the newcomers are probably liberal snowflakes themselves, and they're often unpleasantly bossy people. If he's lucky, some conservatives will move in. They make good neighbors.
Come to think of it, someone should send the professor an “It’s OK to be white” shirt.
Reading this thread I am listening to Chris Rock’s “Nigga Please” cereal ad.
Like the old joke about the black kid who puts flour on his face, says “I’m a white boy now!” and gets beat up by his parents & older brother, then thinks to himself,
“I’ve been a white boy for just five minutes and already I hate three niggas!”
Back when SNL was funny and skewed everybody equally.
I miss those days.
Time to start hating on professors. Find him and whitie make his life a living hell.
I get So mad at Whiteys,
I Kick My Own Ass!
______________
LOL...i’m going to steal that.
The very few people I strongly dislike are college professors. Imagine that.
They aren’t THAT dedicated.
That’s like the UT-Austin prof who wants to kill 90% of the population with Ebola. Funny, neither of these profs are standing in the front of the line.
Like I said. they are not THAT dedicated. Never a feral hog around when you need one.
"I am a white people." ?
Not a English professor... for Gods sake
You would be fired immediately, nobody would ever rehire you, and if you tried to start your own business, no bank would lend you money for fear of being boycotted on Twitter.
This street only goes one way.
It is quite popular for white liberals to hate white people.
If the human race, then I'm all for it. The world would be better off.
If the Caucasian race, then he should go into his beloved Harlem 'hood decked out in some blackface and tell us how it goes.
As far as Rutgers' "free speech" invocation goes, we all know they wouldn't mount that same defense if a black prof said that about white people. And they know it too.
