What a GREAT way for the Feds to increase their stockpile of arms for use AGAINST US.

Don’t be so dramatic. No one is nuking anyone or threatening that. I’m telling you this is not the 18th Century. The argument that you would go to war with your government if an assault weapons ban was in place is ludicrous and inflames the gun debate. Which is what you want.

https://twitter.com/RepSwalwell/status/1063537935398522880

Fair question. Rifles. They’re more powerful and cause more carnage when used with a pistol-grip. See @ScottPelley @60Minutes piece. To reduce semi-auto pistol deaths I’d have universal background checks and mandatory reporting on mental health.

Joe, it’s sarcasm. He said he’s going to war with America if gun legislation was passed. I told him his government has nukes. God forbid we use sarcasm

America’s gun debate in one thread.

1) I propose a buy-back of assault weapons

2) Gun owner says he’ll go to war with USA if that happens

3) I sarcastically point out USA isn’t losing to his assault weapon (it’s not the 18th Century)

4) I’m called a tyrant

5) 0 progress

Said to King Leonidas of Sparta at Thermopylae with his 700 Greeks facing more than 100,000 Persians: “Surrender your Arms”.

His answer: “Take them”.

I didn’t buy any of my guns from the government so it’s impossible for the government to “buy them back” from me.

How does one ‘buy back’ something one never owned to begin with?

He thinks that the government can “buy back” all the guns owned by citizens of the USA for $15 billion. United States citizens own approximately 400 million guns. That comes to $3.75 a gun.

Define “assault weapon”.

My definition, an Assault Weapon is what you call a Baseball Bat after you hit someone upside the Head with it.

“Assault weapons” is a totally meaningless term. I’ve seen on twitter where at least one dim bulb classified a black-powder Hawkins single shot as such because of the size of its projectile! at 50 cal. Yet another wanted my semi-auto Ruger Break-down 10/22 banned because it fired so many and could be carried in a suitcase.

The real problem is this, we have a society where very deadly weapons capable of mass deaths are readily available. This is what the LEFT is totally focused on, to take away a Constitutional right from law-abiding citizens in the hope that EVENTUALLY this will reduce the deaths. The unpalatable answer to the LEFT is that weapons are easy and even where guns and knives are strongly restricted, these crimes STILL HAPPEN! Add to that the historical fact that guns have been common in America for CENTURIES!

In my Dad’s middle school as well as high school there was a ‘Rod & Gun’ Club. Kids brought their 22s and learned how to use them safely! In high school it was deer rifles that were admired. What changed from then to now where a kid brings a deadly weapon to school to use at school?

MORALITY and a moral popular culture, that is what has changed!

I watched just a day back a Youtube video series of best action movie scenes. All from LEFTist Hollywood, all probably starring vocal gun haters but ALL OF THEM, ALL had guns and death counts you cannot believe. Hollywood replies that they only do it because it sells tickets. Yet, stats tell Hollywood that family movies can consistently sell tickets, IF THEY WOULD MAKE THEM!

I could go on, but the LEFT is completely myopic on this subject. They are willing to take our guns when we are innocent of any wrong-doing. Yet they are equally blind to their culpability to removing public morality.

Sigh, soapbox off!

Let’s game this out Rep Swallwell.

In Civil Wars things are anything but civil. I have read the Twitter thread and contained therein is a notion that we gun owners would be battling the government. Moreover, the last civil war is cited as proof of thre futility of fighting the government.

That is an oversimplification and misses how tragic a war would be and how utterly barbaric it would be. Some points to consider:

Unlike the last civil war this one isn’t about one side wishing to continue the institution of slavery. As a matter of fact this one would be more akin to fighting the revolution which started with the British attempting to secure the colonists arms.

The notion that all gun owners are a monolithic political entity is false. Gun owners are also democrats.

The notion that the government, particularly the military would function as a monolith if it came to a shooting war is wrong. Make no mistake the military would be needed if wide spread unrest broke out. The FBI and othet para military entities could not handle a wide spread rising. The military would be called.

And therein is where a point of history may have been missed by Mr. Sawell. During the last civil war many confederate soldiers and officers had served in the Union Army. To think a schism in our military would not result this time is a foolish notion. Some may sit it out by refusing to violently suppress their fellow citizens, some of whom will be vets.

Speaking of nukes, if this does get as nasty and out of hand as I think it will, with a schism in our military, does anyone think that only one side would control and have possession of our nuclear arsenal or the necessary materials.

Final food for Mr. Salwell, if both sides have nukes who is more vulnerable? Could it be the side whose vast number of drone like supporters are concentrated in large cities? Hmmmm. A city like DC?
