Barbi Benton a childhood crush
Country's been dead awhile.
Birthday 4/15 1933. Clark was born in Meherrin, Virginia, and received his
first guitar on his 14th Christmas. He was playing in his father’s square
dance band at age 15.
Both Roy and Glen Campbell were such talented entertainers I think their incredible instrumental virtuosity was seriously underrated. I would say both were as good, or better, as any of the rock guitar gods of that time such as Hendrix, Page or Clapton. Campbell was one of the guitar players for the greatest studio band of all time - the LA “Wrecking Crew”. (Sorry Muscle Shoals fans, I think the Wrecking Crew were better). Glen was the ONLY one ever in the Wrecking Crew who couldn’t read a lick of sheet music. He didn’t have to, he could listen to any song once and immediately jump in and play a guitar part as if he had been practicing the charts for week. He would invent riffs on the fly that became defining hooks for hit songs by such greats as the Beach Boys, Mamas and Papas, Byrds, Sinatra, Sonny and Cher and many others. Roy did a version of the classical spanish song “Maleguena” that was stunning. (he played it once on an episode of the show “Odd Couple”. RIP Roy, you were one of a kind - you keep Glen honest up there.
Gloom- Despair- And Agony On Me;
Deep Dark Depression- Excessive Misery;
If it weren’t for bad luck- I’d have no luck at all;
Gloom- Despair- And Agony On Me...
Although Tom Petty was a very good guitarist, Roy Clark was better.
Loved his music... RIP...
Was Hee-Haw on National Television?
Did it play in Detroit, or New Hampshire?
Or was it just a southern thing?
“Yesterday, when I was young
The taste of life was sweet
Like rain upon my tongue.....”
That song still in my memory after all these years.
RIP
LOL
Yesterday, When I Was Young...
God rest you, Roy.
It was broadcast nationally and was very popular.

He was great!
Hee Haw is an American television variety show featuring country music and humor with fictional rural Kornfield Kounty as a backdrop. It aired on CBS-TV from 19691971 before a 20-year run in local syndication.
Hee Haw’s appeal was not limited to a rural audience. It was successful in all of the major markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Other niche programs such as The Lawrence Welk Show (which targeted older audiences) and Soul Train (a black-oriented program) also rose to prominence in syndication during the era. Like Laugh-In, the show minimized production costs by taping all of the recurring sketches for a season in batches setting up for the Cornfield one day, the Joke Fence another, etc. At the height of its popularity, an entire year’s worth of shows would be taped in two separate week-long sessions, then individual shows would be assembled from edited sections. In addition, the show was taped in front of a live audience, with a laugh track added later to smooth over live audience reactions.
The series was taped at WLAC-TV (now WTVF)[2] and Opryland USA in Nashville.
