You are correct in the word used, but this was coined by Spiro T. Agnew, when addressing the press of Nixon’s day. I believe he was addressing the press, but he could have mean all those coming out critical of Nixon too at the public level (in the press).

I couldn’t come up with the proper “N” word. Thanks for the mention.
