Democrats load "subpoena cannon" with 85+ Trump targets
Axios ^ | 12 Nov 2018 | Mike Allen

Posted on 11/12/2018 6:25:07 AM PST by mandaladon

House Democrats plan to probe every aspect of President Trump’s life and work, from family business dealings to the Space Force to his tax returns to possible "leverage" by Russia, top Democrats tell us.

What they're saying: One senior Democratic source said the new majority, which takes power in January, is preparing a "subpoena cannon," like an arena T-shirt cannon.

Show less Based on our reporting and other public sources, Axios' Zach Basu has assembled a list of at least 85 potential Trump-related investigation and subpoena targets for the new majority. (See the list.) Incoming House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told “Axios on HBO” that he expects Trump to resist the committees' requests, demands and subpoenas — likely pushing fights over documents and testimony as far as the Supreme Court.

Why it matters: The fight will test the power of the presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court. Top Democrats, who had largely avoided the subject during the campaign, now tell us they plan to almost immediately begin exploring possible grounds for impeachment. A public report by Robert Mueller would ignite the kindling.

Tom Steyer, the liberal activist who spent more than $100 million during the campaign to build support for impeachment, said establishment leaders who are trying to postpone talk of impeachment are "the outliers": "80 percent of registered Democrats think ... we're right." Two of the most powerful incoming chairs tell "Axios on HBO" that they are plotting action far beyond Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

1) Schiff, the top Democrat on the intelligence committee, told us he wants to help special counsel Robert Mueller, and plans to release — with some redactions of classified material — transcripts of dozens of interviews the committee conducted during its own Russia probe.

It would be more accurate to say Clinton's impeachment trial was a hung jury. 50 Senators voted to remove. 5 RINO'S sided with the RATs . Not one RAT voted to remove . Not one.

Federal law states Congress can request and review individual tax returns. If Trump tells the IRS not to release the returns the refusal will be article one in articles of impeachment.

Incorrect!

The Supreme Court held in Watkins v. United States, “there is no congressional power to expose for the sake of exposure.” Rather, if Congress wants to collect information from the executive branch or other outsiders, it must do so in connection with its legislative power. A Congressional attempt to investigate an official or request information from him is valid only to the extent it serves proper legislative purposes. Congress cannot simply engage in “a fruitless investigation into the personal affairs of individuals.” Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 195 (1880).

Yup. Sleepy Jeff refused to do what the democrats now will actually do. Except, Jeff would have been prosecuting real crimes.

We need a wager on how rich the destitute Ocasio-Cortex will become on her meager Congressional salary. We could keep a running wager - 2 years, 4 years, 6 years, etc. in office. She would be a good benchmark to examine how these people get paid off.

It’s shocking and disappointing that this is never investigated. That suggests that they all are on the take. Except (maybe) Joe Biden. Perhaps he is actually smart enough to keep his filthy lucre completely hidden in offshore accounts and to cheat on the Congressional finance forms.

They need to investigate who is funding ANTIFA. I suspect it’s Tom Steyer. Arming ANTIFA blackshirts with clubs and shields would be pretty good evidence that whoever is funding it paid for violence and vandalism. That’s a felony. Make them pay.

Roger that. Inmates running the asylum - they need to feed the monster that they've made.

« Democrats.....working hard to re-elect President Trump in 2020.... »

Underestimate Democrat scu&bags at your peril.

They have a resident president behind the scenes, a propaganda ministry in the msm, an enforcement/armed force organization in ANTIFA, the willingness to steal elections, the desire to suspend the Constitution
And they never stop.

IMHO

Aww, that is so cute that you think the left, backed up by liberal judges, gives a damn what the Constitution says.

When has the Democrats let not having the authority to do something let it prevent them from doing something that they wanted to do?

Agreed, but that does not prevent the President, all of his family, friend and associates, and those of us who support him from fighting this illegal harassment tooth and nail. I posted what I did to inform us of the President's and our rights, not to make us cower in our corners or bow down to whatever the congressional Democrats want to do.

I choose to fight. To fight in whatever legal means I have available to me.

I’ll bet there is not one jot or tittle out of place in Trump’s tax return. At his level, fudging isn’t worth the audit hassle. The whole thing is Trump’s briar patch and the dims are B’rer Fox.

work together to pass bipartisan legislation for the common good.

That is the root cause of the problem. Conservatives work for the common good of America. Socialists work for the good of their party.

Excellent analysis, SOTS. I cannot disagree with anything you posit.

Also, the Dems thumbed their noses at investigations and subpoenas. Republicans, still naively believing in the rule of law and the fundamental goodness of our republican system, will comply. They have no will to resist.

That information was not for them, but for us, so that we can know on what legal grounds we can fight and support the President. You can crawl into your hole and enjoy your snark. I hope more of us on the right will do whatever we can within the scope of our individual resources to fight them tooth and nail.

Oh, this whole thing is more than that. Aside from injuring or taking down Trump, it is also a 2020 battle cry to rally and energize the base and a major-league fund-raising effort. Just as the dems had trouble figuring out why Trump won, the stupid party is now having trouble seeing what’s coming at them. Also, as others have said, idiot Sessions indirectly greatly enabled this to happen. The personification of stupid were those who bought the “Trust Sessions” Q-crap.

Seriously, you think the Constitution is any sort of impediment to their destruction of these United States?

Democrats run roughshod over the Constitution faster than Soviet tanks crushed the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

People who have never seen a complex personal tax return do not understand them. There is nothing in them other than pass through items from other entities and the few personal contributions not made from a trust, foundation or pass through entity. I have seen returns of a thousand pages where you couldn’t determine a single thing about income sources or expenses because every item rolled into the return on Forms K-1 from hundreds of entities with names like SWAMER SUB0140 or whatnot. I recall a mogul here in Cincinnati who had over a thousand oil drilling entities, each one with no information other than the K-1 line items which are utterly opaque.
