THOUSAND OAKS, California Six off-duty police officers were inside the Borderline Bar & Grill on Wednesday night when a gunman opened fire on those present.
Twelve people were killed as the gunman, who has been identified as David Ian Long, attacked the bar using a smoke device and a .45-caliber handgun. Many of those present were young people, on hand for college night.
Captain Garo Kuredjian, Media Relations Officer for the Ventura County Police Department, told Breitbart News on the scene that there had been three officers from the Oxnard Police Department and three from the Los Angeles Police Department inside the Borderline, all off duty.
They were likely unarmed, he said, though he could not yet confirm that information, nor could he yet say if and how they had assisted victims or confronted the gunman.
Typically, if you go to a bar, if youre going to be drinking, you would leave your gun at home, Kuredjian said.

“Typically, if you go to a bar, if youre going to be drinking, you would leave your gun at home, Kuredjian said.” Unless you’re an fbi agent in Denver trying to do a back flip on the dance floor. Then it’s okay I guess after all-— “FBI”.
I thought all cops off duty still carried.
Apparently, not ALL the time.
Regards,
Safest town in the country security makes people let their guard down.
For once, it seems that someone realized that booze and guns are not a good mix. Except the shooter.
Don’t want your weapon to fall out on dance floor.
I love the scene in “Beverly Hills Cop” when Eddie Murphy gets Taggart and Rosewood to go into the strip club with him. Murphy soon figures out that a robbery is being set and stops the whole thing. He tries to give credit to Taggart and Rosewood, but they admit to their boss that they were just hanging out in a strip club while on duty.
You can thank lawyers, civilian review boards and liberal politicians for that. If one of these guys got involved of a use of deadly force incident off duty, and had a blood draw after and any alcohol showed up, they’d be fired whether or not the shoot was good.
Must be a great place to pick up chicks.
As a retired LEO I find your remark extremely offensive. Please don’t paint all of us with your overly broad paintbrush.
And wound somebody.
I'm sure that many do. But that is not entirely what is in question here. So, I'll cut to the point. Let's say an off duty cop goes into a bar. Since a blood alcohol level of .08 is considered drunk driving, what blood alcohol level would you be comfortable with if an off duty officer is armed and drinking in a bar?
Those that I hang around do, but then again we don’t go to Bars.
Probably in reference to the litigious crap LEOs are saddled with these days.
My understanding, which is secondhand, was that they are supposed to carry off duty, unless they're going drinking, in which case they're not supposed to carry.
so....it was a revenge hit on cops?

Thank you.
