A slew of leftwing Democrats are running in the midterms but some believe its too soon for a full-scale embrace of progressive ideas
In the midst of these bitterly contested, hyper-partisan midterm elections, one of the most interesting subplots is how the left-leaning, Bernie Sanders-inspired Democrats will fare and what that could mean for the future of US politics.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs congressional victory in New York in June was a high-water mark for the left. Backed by Sanders and the Democratic Socialists of America, Ocasio-Cortez crushed the Democratic insider Joe Crowley in what some heralded as a socialist dawn.
But since then some of the other Democratic candidates running on progressive platforms have faltered, falling to more traditional centrists. Which raises the question: is the US ready for a wave of democratic socialism?

My be sooner than you think when the anti-Christ takes over.
The inspiration for Bernie and other socialists was from Eugene V. Debs.
They have been at least mostly. Ocasio-Cortes inspired candidates all lost. Does not mean the D’s that won the primary are any better. Means that they lost.
At this point I dislike all D’s. So voting against them all.
Absolutely. I killed off a thread at a lefty site Mediatie by word for word using three sources Britannica, Conservapedia and difference between explaining what socialism was. Only got a reply about how I copied and pasted the post. Nobody replied to the article after that. These moonbats do not know what socialism is.
The site was Mediaite rather.
I’m glad in I’m my 60’s. Training my kids to fight.
Liberal districts are going more socialist (another word for liberal these days.) The rest of the country is running in horror from the @&#@ show they’ve created within cities.
Once you break the eggs you cant fix them. Ask Humpity Dumpity.
It’s tough to beat an incumbent in a primary. How many incumbents actually lose in the primary?
Ocasio-Cortez beat Crowley by about 4k votes out of 30k cast (57-43%)...hardly a crushing defeat.
It’s somewhat surprising that he didn’t mention Pressley beating Capuano. Turnout was much heavier here (60k votes to 42k), 58.5-41.3%.
Leftists hate it when I point out that VZ is end-stage Democratic Socialism on full display. Socialism always leads to shortages of 3 things - breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Whenever I read, Left-leaning...
I think, Left-falling-down-drunk.
Ocasio-Cortez’s victory, being called the “high tide” of the socialist/New Left movement, is similar to the “high tide” that occurs when a sewage plant overflows its tanks and floods the nearby rivers and bays.
It temporarily causes a “high tide of shit and other garbage”, stinks for a while, pollutes the water, plants and wildlife, but eventually recedes back into its holding cage. Then life goes back to normal.
“Ocasio-Cortez-Garbage, the High Tide of Socialism” in America. Coming as a Democrat election choice, soon. Pull the RIGHT lever and send it back to the sewage plant it came from.
The Democrat cesspool swamp is filled up enough without having a need for any more crap being added to it. Time to drain the swamp on Nov. 6th. Pull the Plug on Crap. Vote Republican, the party of the Roto-Rooter Man, Trump.
Tonight, Levin pointed out that a bunch of socialists are running right now. I’m assuming the November 6 Red Tsunami will blow them all away.
