White House chief of staff John Kelly and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski got into a physical altercation earlier this year outside the Oval Office and had to be separated by the Secret Service, The New York Times reported Monday.
The Times, citing a half-dozen people familiar with the altercation, reported that Kelly grabbed Lewandowski "by the collar and tried to have him ejected from the West Wing."
The altercation occurred on Feb. 21 and was preceded by an argument between the two men, according to the newspaper.
The two men were inside the Oval Office that day with Trump, and Kelly reportedly complained to the president that Lewandowski was making money off Trump through a contract with a super PAC supporting Trump's reelection, according to the Times.
Kelly was also angry because Lewandowski had criticized him on television for his handling of security clearances for Rob Porter, the newspaper reported. Porter is a former top aide to President Trump who resigned amid abuse accusations from his two ex-wives.
When Kelly and Lewandowski left the Oval Office, Kelly called for Lewandowski to be removed from the White House and the two began arguing. The Times reported that Kelly grabbed Lewandowski by the collar and tried to push him against the wall.
According to the newspaper, Lewandowski didn't get physical in response, but the Secret Service was still called in.
The altercation reportedly happened on the same day that the White House was hosting families of victims in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Lewandowski, who exited the Trump campaign in June 2016, was at the White House for a scheduled meeting with the president.
The Times' reporting on the altercation comes after Kelly reportedly engaged in a profanity-laced shouting match with national security adviser John Bolton last week outside the Oval Office.
The White House did explicitly deny that report and did not comment on the Times' latest report.
On Sunday, former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci claimed Kelly throws "hissy fits" and has "hurt the morale" inside the White House.
If something physical went down, Bolton or Lewandowski would have been making excuses like slipping in the shower for their blackened eyes and bent noses. If they weren’t obvious, it didn’t happen.
Besides, when it goes physical with officers of Naval Infantry, they control the mayhem, though close to observe.
Isn’t that the paper that I see at the supermarket checkout counter featuring stories of space aliens?
Maybe they should stick to fall fashion, politics are not their thing ;-) LOL! anyway the parakeet doesn't mind that their pages line his cage...
Not News at this point. Olds recycled.
Whats wrong with Kelly? The President does not need a loose cannon in the White House. If the pressure is getting to Kelly to this extent, he should resign.
Video or it didn’t happen. Was Omarosa near by?
talk about old news
Youre making an assumption that the NYT is reporting the truth.
Seems to be a trend. Media trying to make Kelly appear an out of control hot head, and a reflection of his boss. Trying to get him fired it seems to me.
I think they are liars trying to stir up stuff prior to an election.
Wouldn’t mimosa have a picture of this?
Did any of the ‘6 or so eye witnesses’ get named?
SORRY, I did not read ALL of the drivel.
I know I am ‘prejudiced’ against the NewYorkSlimes but life is to short to read their trash just on the basis that something they report may be TRUE....
Thank you for stating this. In every photo I’ve seen of him, he looks serious, calm, attentive and quiet. I cannot think of a better counterpoint to Trump’s personality.
I find it interesting that my first reaction is to not believe the story....how far news agencies have fallen 20 years ago I just would of excepted it as truth rather then questioning it.
>>The President does not need a loose cannon in the White House.
Don’t say that around here. Too many on this forum think that guy is some reincarnated Solomon or Christ.
Picking up spent shell casings and trying to fire them...they are out of ammo...
Kelly is BAD NEWS. I’d take Corey ANY DAY!
Does anyone really believe all this stuff? According to reports, Kelly is one tough SOB and has it in for everyone! Well, he is, after all, a jarhead! LOL!
No evidence. The NY SLIMES is reporting this without providing evidence.
"Collar" is incorrect terminology. The correct term is "Stacking Swivel" (look up '03 Springfield or M-1 Garand)
"...tried to push him against the wall" is also incorrect. The proper terminology is "Attitude Adjustment."
(don't they teach anything in Journalism School?)
Some people in leadership "do not suffer fools gladly."
