White House chief of staff John Kelly and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski got into a physical altercation earlier this year outside the Oval Office and had to be separated by the Secret Service, The New York Times reported Monday.
The Times, citing a half-dozen people familiar with the altercation, reported that Kelly grabbed Lewandowski "by the collar and tried to have him ejected from the West Wing."
The altercation occurred on Feb. 21 and was preceded by an argument between the two men, according to the newspaper.
The two men were inside the Oval Office that day with Trump, and Kelly reportedly complained to the president that Lewandowski was making money off Trump through a contract with a super PAC supporting Trump's reelection, according to the Times.
Kelly was also angry because Lewandowski had criticized him on television for his handling of security clearances for Rob Porter, the newspaper reported. Porter is a former top aide to President Trump who resigned amid abuse accusations from his two ex-wives.
When Kelly and Lewandowski left the Oval Office, Kelly called for Lewandowski to be removed from the White House and the two began arguing. The Times reported that Kelly grabbed Lewandowski by the collar and tried to push him against the wall.
According to the newspaper, Lewandowski didn't get physical in response, but the Secret Service was still called in.
The altercation reportedly happened on the same day that the White House was hosting families of victims in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Lewandowski, who exited the Trump campaign in June 2016, was at the White House for a scheduled meeting with the president.
The Times' reporting on the altercation comes after Kelly reportedly engaged in a profanity-laced shouting match with national security adviser John Bolton last week outside the Oval Office.
The White House did explicitly deny that report and did not comment on the Times' latest report.
On Sunday, former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci claimed Kelly throws "hissy fits" and has "hurt the morale" inside the White House.

and here it is late october
but there is a midterm election so...
The hotter the fire, the better the sword.
there are only three kinds of stories coming out of the MSM these days; (1) trump is going to kill us all, (2) trump hates women and monorities, but especially hates hispanics, and (3) the trump white house is incompetent and in utter disarray, which is usually followed by a (1) or a (2).
this one was a #3.
Who cares.
Looks like they are trying to get Kelly fired. First he beat up Bolton. Now Lewandowski. Next they are going to report that he beat up Nikki Haley and thats the real reason she left.
NYT? WTF is that?
“NYT reported”
fake news sources by fake news media ...
These lies by clickbait have done wonders to discredit the fake news. Having to fill endless headline space for clicks has turned these leftwing outlets into Teen Vogue. Its rather funny when you think of journalism just twenty five years ago.
8 months ago NYTs. What relevance now? Yaaawwwn Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
There’s not much left to scrape off the bottom of the barrel.
I see nothing wrong with a spirited conversation.
If true, those two will have barroom stories to swap for the rest of their lives. But...it’s the NY Times so probably not true.
February!
Oh yeah, youbetcha. Marine Generals are known for "hissy fits".
So Kelly got into to it with Bolton, and now Lewandowski, and only the NYSlimes knows about it. Yeah sure. Bet they don’t even have access to the janitors John.
They now literally have nothing.
Four Stars usually don’t have “hissy fits”. They have other ways to take care of business. Plus, we are talking a Marine four star here.
The media, Democrats and anti-Trump brigade always claim the President runs a disorderly and chaotic White House.
The fact is the White House is run by General Kelly and is probably the most competent and orderly White House in history. That’s the kind of leader Kelly is.
