50,000? I don’t think so, based on the aerial photos I’ve seen and my own driving around downtown this afternoon.
But simply filling the 18,000 seat Toyota Center is a huge turnout by any reasonable standard for a political rally in a mid-term election year.
Also of note: Early voter turnout in Harris County shattered the record for the first day of early voting in a mid-term election. By now, it has probably eclipsed even the 2008 turnout.
Even as energized as Republicans are now, high early voter turnout is probably not a good sign for Republican countywide candidates. Democrat candidates have generally swept countywide elections in Harris County during high-turnout presidential election years, such as 2008 and 2016. If that holds true this year, we will have no more Republican trial judges in Harris County.
