Crimea School Massacre: Russians Blame American Culture
CNN ^ | Oct 18, 2018 | Matthew Chance

"It all started with the tragic events in the United States, in the schools of the United States," Vladimir Putin told the Valdai discussion forum in Sochi in southern Russia.

As Russians struggle to come to terms with a horrific US-style school shooting in Crimea, which has left at least 20 people dead and dozens injured, Kremlin-controlled media are blaming the "corrupting influence" of the West for inspiring the attack.

This person was under the strong influence of Western subculture," said Sergey Mikheyev, a political analyst speaking on a nightly current-affairs show on Russian state television.

"Western subculture builds its matrix on the cult of violence. The one who has a weapon in his hands is right. This is a purely American approach to the matter," Mikheyev added.

The largest school massacre in history took place in Beslan, Russia in 2004. Left 337 people, mostly children, dead. Granted it was a terrorist hostage siege.

And just last year a spree of axe-wielding teens in neo-Nazi regalia wreaked havoc across schools in Siberia and the heartland of the country.

“Western subculture builds its matrix on the cult of violence.”

Well, we ARE a FREE country that, for SOME reason, tolerates Socialists, Communists, Fascists and pretty much ALL the types of people Putin enjoys.

It’s a mixed bag, when you’re a Representative Republic. Still the best game going, though! ;)

Russia's not a part of the West?

They now claim to be Christian country, and the difference between the Christian and non-Christian worlds is bigger than the difference between Eastern and Western Christianity, isn't it?

In their own way, they have been an imperialist power in the age of Western Empires. And I'm thinking lifestyles in Moscow and St. Petersburg now aren't all that different from lifestyles in other large cities around the world, are they?

“The one who has a weapon in his hands is right. This is a purely American approach to the matter”

Wrong. This is an historical truth. Why do nations parade their missiles, show off their might. The concept that might makes right dates back long before America was even a nation.

The documentary on the Beslan massacre was possibly the greatest and most profoundly sad piece of film I’ve ever seen. It’s a perfect book-end, as far as the realpolitik of what is possible to happen in Russia, as the Russian anti-war film COME AND SEE, by Elem Klimov, from the mid-80s.
