"We're going to be asking for a 5 percent cut from every secretary today," Trump told reporters at the White House in advance of a meeting with those secretaries.
The proposal comes days after the Trump administration announced a $779 billion budget deficit for fiscal year 2018 a six-year high and a 17 percent jump from the prior period.
"He's asking them to cut the fraud, the waste, the abuse," White House senior advisor Kellyanne Conway said on Fox Business News. "Cut the fat, not the essentials." Trump had said in an earlier interview on the network that "We're going to cut spending, absolutely."
"It's not as tough as you think, and frankly there's a lot of fat in there," Trump added, while noting that "we had to get the military done last time." Trump signed a $716 billion defense spending bill into law in August.
The president did not mention any specific area of government spending he planned to examine for cuts. But he also said during the interview that his administration will "continue with the tax cuts, because we have other tax cuts planned."

Only 5%? He should go with Ten per cent across the board, They are all so overpaid already, compared with America’s hard workers.
Bullshit!
All Trump had to do was a sneak claw-back of unspent EOY funds. He would have gotten anywhere from 5-9% from every cabinet painlessly.
“I dont like across the board percentage cuts. They are gutless. Trump needs to eliminate useless programs.”
Trump is NOT a micro-manager. He picks good people, provides them with guidance and expects them to accomplish his goals. If they are unable or unwilling to do so, he can always resort to his trademark,
“You’re FIRED!”

I have heard exactly the same darn thing.
Irresponsible by the Marines.
Amazing start.
25% cut isn’t enough

America’s little socialist experiment is hitting the wall. The perfect storm will take it out like Michael took out Mexico Beach.
You can either be a “global superpower” or you can have a “welfare state” but you cannot have both.
America has tried to be both but the crush of welfare recipient immigrants, the growing social decay, and the slowing workforce will cause one or both to eventually be cut.
Start with employees.

Affirmative Action positions. No one needs a diversity officer
Good one.
Why does anything they have to do always cost more? Why do wages always have to go up? Why do prices always have to go up?
“I wonder if any of them had seen the movie ‘Dave’. Too simplistic ?”
Probably. It made too much sense. (Loved that movie.)
The promise that Reagan didn't keep. He did kill the double nickel speed limit.
From 1950 to 1956 I know for a fact that fast food prices did not go up. I wasn't into Houses and Cars but Hamburgers an Sodas and French Fries absolutely stayed the same price. I had the same 25 cent daily lunch allowance for all of those years, burgers were a dime French fries were a dime and soda was a nickel.
I remember when they installed 1 cent changers to soda machines when they raised the price of a Coke to 6 cents.
Cities only have to get bigger to finance the crooked government that people elect, same at the federal level.
Everything does not have to get bigger and more expensive to be better. Only reason it has to is to finance the Fed because we will always owe more than the amount of money in circulation because every dollar issued comes interest bearing.
