Yesterday, it came to my attention that the head of the math department at a Texas public university is engaging in political activism with students. What this professor did was to include IN A MATH EXAM a question about the Kavanaugh nomination. The question, roughly was,
"Should Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed to SCOTUS?
1. No 2. Hell, no. 3. Never in a million years."
Apparently, the professor's justification was that the student would get credit for answering the question, regardless of what answer they chose. And this person is quite unapologetic about it. But the point is, why is a math professor including an obviously politically charged question in a MATH exam?
I do not want to give any more specifics because I want to protect my source. But this just infuriates me and I wonder if any freepers have any ideas as to how this could be addressed. Could a student bring any sort of complaint about this?
Fire his ass. Immediately.

Legislation is needed. Make what happens in state-run school classes an easily discoverable matter of public record. Even people who are not prone to vote Republican would be shocked if they could readily see what is going on. Grades 1-12 should be on tape.
Should the math professor be thrown into a pit full of hungry dogs?
1. Yes
2. Yes, can I watch
3. Yes, can I push
And who would that be?
Thank you for your always well reasoned analysis. I look forward to your posts!

But I thought, based on all the discussions here, that Texas was immune from this sort of malfeasance! Could it be that Texas really isn’t much different than most of the rest of the states?
Beat his ass in the parking lot.
No name was given if that is what you seek. This is a vanity, and probably involves a child of the poster, so the poster does not want to signal any clues at this point in time that the professor can use in retaliation.
I agree. The Big Ed establishment doesn’t want people to see what’s going on in the classroom.
If you are going to complain about a politico question in a math test, then:
1. Name the university.
2. Name the math course.
3. Name the professor.
Yes, the original poster just wanted to vent, and didn't want to do anything or have anything done.
Facebook is probably a better platform for non-productive venting.
Right now he/she is just looking for suggestions. Then depending on those perhaps action will be taken. Poster may not do Facebook, as I don’t. Wife does, but I have no desire.
It must really be hard to live in California and to have to constantly hear about Texas. As it turns out Universities in Texas are run by the same liberal aholes that run most universities every where. The difference is we don't elect them to run our government also......like they do in California!!!!
“Should the Professor keep his/her tenure?
1. No 2. Hell, no. 3. Never in a million years.”
4. ALL OF THE ABOVE!
No they can’t with all the tenure crap. No instead the university should be sued for fraud for hiring a math teacher that is not teaching math. They are extorting collage tuition under false pretense.
Yup, no facebook or twitter for me. Would love to put more out there, but can’t risk any further details. I was just astonished when I heard what this prof did.
You need more details in order to believe this story.
Don’t be troll/hoax bait!
Nice try

Every area is being deliberately politicized in order to make more Communist stormtroopers and those easily controlled by such. It’s time to purge every single solitary Marxist brainwasher from every taxpayer-funded school from Kindergarten to University-level. They have no business being near any children.
go to the math head or the dean and complain that there was no alternative answer to ‘no’, that you believe the exam was a litmus test and you are now in fear of not receiving an impartial grade since the teacher has implied, by giving credit for any ‘no’ answer, that he is willing to reward political preference in his classroom. Follow the inperson up with a formal letter. Wait and see what happens.
You’ve misunderstood. The professor should prove how brave he is by coming out publicly. Need picture and name of professor.
