I guess the base is out of service for some time to come.Which base picks up the slack I wonder.
Tyndall AFB should be moved inland. This is not the first time a hurricane has landed nearby.
No reason to keep repairing it again and again.
I’ll be there in Dec, will be curious to see what things look like then. It’s often amazing to me how quick Americans can clean up and rebuild. Went to Houston 2 months after Harvey, it looked fine.

In addition to Florence lasting longer, I also think it effecting a lot less people was a big deal in less coverage. I have a place that was less than 40 miles from the eye and didn’t even lose power. This one was very concentrated.
You do not understand how the deep state works. If it is a major catastrophe, down play the incident. This is because the deep state has run up a short term tab of 20 trillion in debt with hardly anything to show for it. So when the catastrophe is minor and can be managed, hype the incident. This is because the state can handle the damage with its minimal resources. This theory works in every instance where the deep state is in charge
What restrictions? I’m a pilot and fly over and thru lots of military bases.
Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field are nearby and sustained very little damage. I’m sure their Navy friends in Pensacola and Whiting Field would accommodate if necessary as well. Stealth fighters are at Tyndall, they were all moved well before the storm.
Tyndall has a vital range function. They will operate as usual as quickly as possible. Go Red Horses!!
I watched the video that popped up after this one showing Mexico Beach.
That looked like tornado damage times 10 here in Nebraska. I read on one of these threads a while back that a hurricane is like an F2 or F3 tornado that is a couple hundred miles wide. Good Lord! Prayers out to all you folks in the path of that beast from the flat land of no scenery and crappy weather. I think my firm is doing a dollar for dollar match on contributions so I will be sending some Husker bucks your way to help out tomorrow.

In a situation like this, the FAA would publish a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) which would list that status of Tyndall AFB. The NOTAM would list any airspace restrictions and Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility (including radio frequencies) that is responsible for controlling any air traffic in the area.
If the Tyndall AFB radar facilities were damaged, Eglin AFB or Hurlburt AFB would have deployable facilities they could send to Tyndall.
I can assure you the USAF is prepared to handle emergencies like this.

If US_MilitaryRules were to fly over a base at 500 ft agl without talking to the control tower (or ATC facility) then he would be an ex-pilot.
Was stationed at Tyndall in the late ‘50s. Used to go snorkeling under the nearby bridge. That’s where I first saw the F-104,Starfighter and B-58,Hustler (not under the bridge but on the flightline).

Those F-16’s with the orange tails are QF-16 drones that were to be used as missile fodder. The white aircraft in the other end of the hangar not sure what they are, but probably used for range support.
All of the important aircraft (F-22, F-15, AC-130, etc) all flew out on the 9th to bases outside of the danger area.

White Sands probably has enough of the instrumentation to take over. Tyndall conducts live fire weapons testing. They have a massive antenna array over by Port St Joe used for the tests.

Yeah, if the golf course sustained damage and has to be closed for more than two days there will be a spike in PTSD claims... Beyond what would manifest from the cable being out.
