The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the need for the Second Amendment is “most acute” in the home, where “self, family and property” must be protected.
But now Maryland gun regulators are insisting that anyone who wants to defend his home with a firearm must have a month of special training.
A group called Maryland Shall Issue Inc. has filed a lawsuit contending the training requirement violates the Second Amendment.
Arguing a “right delayed is a right denied,” Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, or CCRKBA, explained the licensing process is “expensive and lengthy.”
His groups are part of a coalition that has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the case. The coalition also includes the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
“No citizen should have to jump through so many hoops simply to have a gun in their own home,” Gottlieb said. “There were no such requirements or regulations in Maryland at the time the Constitution was ratified, and the current regulatory scheme seems more intended to discourage responsible firearms ownership than guarantee that gun owners safely handle their firearms.”
Gottlieb said the training requirement in Maryland “imposes a burden on a citizen’s ability to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights.”

How can it be protected when you have to have your guns locked up, with trigger locks and in a lockable gun case, and your ammo stored elsewhere under lock and key?
This is great. I can see all the gangbangers and hoodrats standing in line to get their permit.
These dumbasses coming up with this need to have a required 30 day training program on the Constitution...

Knowing of course that not many people can take a month off from work to take the course
Guaranteed that even the police going through the academy don’t spend thirty days on firearm handling. Any necessary safety training could be accomplished in a couple of hours.

You just have to tell the burglar or rapist to wait for about 15-20 minutes while you get your stuff ready. They will understand.
Or do like Joe Biden says. If a stranger is at the door, blast it with your shotgun.
How about a month of special training to have an abortion then, since we know abortions are always fatal.
I wonder if my military time would qualify but then again they probably would not issue one unless I was in the Chicom or Russian Army or perhaps even the red coats.

This is more than a burden. This is a PROHIBITIVE burden.
This 30 day training requirement is designed to be more than a deterrent it is designed with the knowledge that few people will be willing or able to devote the time and expense to complete the training.
Western MD has more in common with PA than it has with Baltimore.
We will gladly trade Filthadelphia for Western MD.
30 days of training would surely disenfranchise people...
If simply having to show ID to vote disenfranchises people...
Overall though, I kind of doubt that courts would rule that requiring training is too much of a burden.
But who knows these days?
Funny how things go from “not enough” to “way fricken tooo much” real quick?
Yup. Like we would take a lot of the bordering California counties into the NV fold if they want to come on over. ;-)
