I read the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam just to find that quote. His quatrains were rather depressing; Khayyam apparently was an agnostic with no belief in an afterlife and he merely reflects upon the need to obtain as much pleasure from this life as possible because nothing will follow.
Anyway, I’m 70 next month & don’t give a rat’s patootie about these New Puritans and their prohibitionist demands. A drink or two in the evening settles my nerves from the day past & for the day to come. Retirement isn’t all fun and responsibility to others goes on.
These ascetic teetotalers can go bleep themselves. I’ll go whenever God says it’s time.
