Bill Mitchell: "Collins might never have voted for Kavanaugh and given her epic speech without an FBI investigation. The FBI investigation might never have happened unless Flake demanded it. Who did Flake talk to right before demanding it?
Rosenstein.
Not everything is as it appears."

But if you look at the Coup Gambit, where there’s a will to investigate the gnat’s eyelash, there’s a WAY. I still think it’s amazing that any bureaucracy could finish anything on time in this twisted environment.
Thank God for stand up ex boyfriends. CBF andSwetnick should learn not to burn bridges.
I think we needed the investigation, because of the praise Ford got from the press.
Flake’s motives may have been less than noble, but in the end, it was good that it happened.
Rod Rosenstein is the Deputy AG, and in that role he has oversight responsibility for the FBI.
I'm sure Flake simply asked him if the FBI could complete a series of interviews to update Kavanaugh's background check within one week.
I say Bovine Excrement
If you listened to Collins’ speech as she enumerated the reasons for her YES vote you won’t find much, if anything,
that was changed by the final FBI investigation.
All the pieces that supported her position were in place before that last investigation.
Her research extended well back into Kavanaugh’s history long before the FORD controversy was created.
Did she feel that the 7th investigation gave her some political cover for the YES vote?
Perhaps.
But that speech wasn’t written overnight - it is obviously the product of a lot of time, research and soul searching.
It is clear from the content that her reasons were thought out, formulated and documented well in advance.
And it all leads to why she believes a YES vote instead of a NO vote was justified.
Her speech would have been worthless and useless if she was going to vote NO because it did not support a NO vote.
To make that speech and then vote NO would have been something like Comey’s ‘Hillary’ speech in which he enumerated
all of the reasons Hillary was guilty and then essentially declared her not guilty.
He came across as a hypocrite and an idiot.
Collins came across as one who understood her senatorial responsibilities and took them seriously.
I’ve never been a Collins fan but she deserves kudos for what she did in this instance.
There is not crime scene, no corroboration, no evidence and not police report can be made up now.
End local investigation.
“End local investigation.”
And end of discussion. Or it ought to have been.
“Thank God for stand up ex boyfriends.”
Bump!
agree
I wouldn’t give Flake as the reason for Collins voting to uphold Due Process. That distinction goes to two people, Bush and Trump, one of which personally called her and the other publicly telegraphed her. The million-dollar-to-her-opponent extortion attempt might also have contributed to her deciding to fight for doing the right thing.
By holding his breath until he turned blue for a further FBI inquiry, Flake gave on a silver platter what the wingnuts, mentally-caged and logic-challenged wanted: a reason to continue to discredit Kavanaugh by discrediting the FBI and their inquiry as ‘insufficient’. Every single MSM outlet has used ‘asterick by his name’ ‘cloud over the Court’, ‘stained’ etc., to continue to describe Kavanaugh. Due Process is still out the window for the commies - sadly driven by the so-called ‘college-educated’ who, more often than not, seem to have become a new form of street litter. But one silver lining - Flake showed exactly what kind of executive he would be: backstabbing.
It’s going to be a battle hard fought to get our country solidly on the right track - that is, a society that respects and upholds our Constitution. Lot of new people agitating in the streets for the way it was back ‘home’ where mob rule dictated power, either paid or having forgotten why they fled here to begin with.
I Feel the Dems biggest mistake was trotting out 2 women that obviously didnt present the elitist intelligent liberal left persona. Compared to Kavanaugh whose resume is top shelf and the women that are standing with him are also pillars of intelligence and leadership. The Dems have to make everyone believe conservatives are stupid. That is the narrative they have pushed forever.
The biggest mistake the Dems make is believing the crap they think.
In the end, they lose.
Some people will believe anything.
Someone is lying.
McConnell said on FOX yesterday that he was the one who sat down with Flake, Collins and Murkowski in a room and that’s why Flake demanded the FBI investigation. A few days ago, it was reported Collins was still on the fence but she was a yes after having lunch with McConnell. Just after that lunch, she gave her speech. Hogwash. No way was she able to write that near hour long speech during the lunch hour.
Here is my take FWIW.
The Dems and Ford’s team we’re screaming, begging for an FBI investigation. Flake and Collins told Mitch they were No without it. Mitch and Trump discussed. Trump told Mitch to have Flake go ahead and ask for a one week investigation. The Dem plan was for the FBI to interview Ford at which time she would give them “new” information of a credible witness or two. People predetermined to lead FBI farther astray and cause them to need more time.
Trump limited the scope of investigation to assure there could be nothing added. He left Ford and Kavanaugh out to keep Ford from delays and to keep Kavanaugh from any purgery trap. Trump upended their plan. Investigation over. Game.Set.Match.
"Collins might never have voted for Kavanaugh and given her epic speech without an FBI investigation. The FBI investigation might never have happened unless Flake demanded it. Who did Flake talk to right before demanding it? Rosenstein. Not everything is as it appears."

Have a beer for Flake .......
Some guy on twitter says something unsubstantiated. This is not news.
The death threats made her mad. The mobs on her doorstep sealed the deal.
I liked the thinking that said that any addition of "credible" witness by Ford would have been evidence that her lengthy Senate testimony was not completely truthful.
She already got a one week delay for her testimony. Any suggestion that she held back from that, or that she had more "new" recollections of memory, would have been the last straw in her credibility.
