Ronald Brownstein, a senior editor for The Atlantic and senior political analyst at CNN, recently issued a bleak tweet: Today felt very much like an update of the 1850s: 2 very distinct parts of US that no longer care to even fake that they respect or value the other. Like Trump, #Kavanaugh built his strategy on rallying 1 side of that divide vs the other. Seams are unraveling-not just on #SCOTUS
Slappy acknowledges theres a national schism but says that she and her neighbors see Washington as divided, not their communities. James Butler, a local mayor and vice president of the local Rotary club, agrees.
Butler is a Republican, but he says his borough council is made up of elected Democrats and Republicans and he says partisanship is never a part of governing. Everybody has their ideas of what they feel is best for the community, but at our level, its not really a Republican or a Democrat thing. Its more what can we do to solve the problem.
Our great division in this country doesnt come from here, it comes from the political class.
In the elite bubbles, it feels that politics is roiled by division. But in other parts of the country, where people are focused on local issues, many Americans still feel unified. Slappy and Butler epitomize this collective spirit. The elites in cities like DC and New York, says Slappy, dont seem to get that.
Butler, for his part, isnt sure what it will take to close this compassion gap.
I just think it would be better for all of us if it did.

These are the stories that come out when the Republicans are ascendant. Oh, dear. Were sooo divided. More than ever, forces are driving us apart...
The elites hedge their wealth on division. And on foolish issues like homosexuality, bathrooms, PC BS
Salena Zito, huh?
Sounds Spanish and Italian.
cool.
And a heck of a reporter for a while now.
Wait until Butler is accused of being a mass/gang rapist with zero evidence...
And we will see how he feels.
My post was just a guess and trivia/trivial
This post about her being a heck of a reporter is the meat.
I shall get to know her writings better.
Not even a 6-pack will make a normal guy hit it.
Why are they called elites?
Elite what?
That was CRUEL to do to me.
I was picturing a Spanish/Italian mix of utter beauty.
She looks like Mike Bloomberg with a wig on.
Well?
Reality bites.
But it explains her(?) feminaziism.
It seems like half the country are retards who spell words with symbols like #.
I think you should read more of her work. Shes pretty conservative and has captured the spirit of the everyday petiole who support Trump.
I used to like you. FReep that.
Divide and conquer bump for later....
Sicilian. Zito is fairly common name.
You missed the memo. Her work doesn’t matter, only what she looks like. If they wanted to have sex with her, her investigative reporting on Trump voters in the Midwest would be insightful and generally positive. Since they don’t, she’s a “feminazi,” and that’s it for her and anything she might have to say about current electoral sociology.
