Long time coming. I guess past presidents don’t see the suicide in buying and relying on weapons from foreign powers.
Only a damned traitor would have permitted this to begin with.
Beyond obvious for anyone not living in DC. DC is owned and operated by enemies of USConstitution and We-The-People, foreign and domestic, especially China.
I’ve always felt that even if it doesn’t result in the most efficient use of capital investment, there’s a strategic imperative to sustaining a manufacturing and scientific capability within the United States.
It sounds like this report indicates too many components we rely on are sourced from outside our borders and some by clearly hostile nations (e.g. China).
It will be good to have that discussion and it directly speaks to our readiness to confront challenges in the future.
They also need a federal encouraging the domestic mining of rare earths. Any such law would have to forbid NIMBY lawsuits as well.
The Chinese saw all of this coming. THEY are the ones paying protesters.
Who going to supply tungsten besides the Russians? Whose going to supply rare earths besides the Chinese?
B. Clinton’s fault.
Its not just weapons.
All of US infrastructure probably has masses of “back door” compromised hardware.
GOOD!!!!!!!
More winning.
Not tired of it yet.
This should make sense even to those who generally view unfettered trade among nations as a good thing. If we are to remain an independent nation that generally accepts economic freedom, our military must be free of foreign dependence. Especially on socialist regimes.
Trump specializes in common sense.
good idea, particularly since it finally leaked out recently that hundreds of thousands of chinese-made motherboards had been surreptitiously modified with an itty bitty chip that opened a backdoor into the BIOS microcode allowing said microcode to be remotely and secretly modified at will ...
If a country cant produce something then its natural to rely on others. This issue is something other countries take to heart on every product, including agriculture. Free trade was a globalist scam that left us empty
We need to identify our critical industries and protect them. For everything else we can be free traders but NOT chumps. To avoid being chumps we will use punitive/retaliatory tariffs as needed and without hesitation. When our trading partners play fair we’ll be free traders. But when they get selfish we’ll put the hammer down. This seems to be Trump’s vision and it makes perfect sense.
This a is a very good idea.
About time.
The new USMCA treaty should also help to curb Chines influence in NA. Now, he needs to work on eradicating the Chicoms from US strategic minerals Hollywood and Siicon valley.
My suggested addition: No Chinese in the U.S. or elsewhere working on American weaponry.
