FULL TITLE: Pompeo has 'very successful morning' with Kim Jong Un, as talks for second major summit with Trump continue

Just hours after President Trump touted his efforts to denuclearize North Korea at a boisterous rally Saturday night, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters he had a "very productive" meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Sunday.

Although there were no immediate indications the secretary of state had arranged for a second major summit between Trump and Kim, both leaders have publicly voiced support for another meeting.

The jovial feeling during Pompeo's fourth trip to North Korea appeared to be mutual. "It's a very nice day that promises a good future for both countries," Kim told Pompeo through a translator as they sat down for a 90-minute luncheon.

The cordial atmosphere was a marked change in tone from recent negotiations. In July, when Pompeo last visited North Korea, officials there almost immediately decried his “unilateral and gangster-like demand for denuclearization," souring relations between the two countries.

In August, Trump abruptly canceled Pompeo's planned trip to North Korea, saying, "I do not believe they are helping with the process of denuclearization as they once were." Trump cited his tougher trade practices with China as a possible reason for the regime's posture.

But at a rally in West Virginia last week, Trump explained how Kim had turned him around.

"He wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters," Trump told the crowd. "We fell in love.”

Neither Bush, Clinton or Obama even tried this.

Too bad most Americans, like you, have no concept of the Oriental mind and way of doing things. Thank God Trump, Pompeo and their people do understand Asians. How many years have you spent living in and studying Korea?

Even if this doesn’t work we at the very least need to deal as normalized adversaries. The idea of the Hermit Kingdom wasn’t good.

I love our President! If this is what he needs to do to keep us away from a nuclear war - he does it.

I’m wondering how Kim has explained all of this to his people - after all, they were given daily propaganda doses consisting of threats to bomb Washington, destroy America, etc. etc. ... has all of the hate and fear instilled in the North Korean people been negated by different propaganda, now that we’re kind of getting along?

Anyway, I’m STILL going to worry if Trump goes to North Korea... that’s for sure, but I wouldn’t put it past him to do just that.

The President loves to engage in hyperbole. I do not regard this as a fault, but just a characteristic of his. He is ABC...Always Be Closing. If it takes a little over the top hyperbole regardig a letter to move things along...then so be it. It doesn’t hurt, it puts the other side a bit more at ease and it doesn’t cost a thing. President Trump has always been up front regarding negotiations with North Korea...”If something happens, then it happens...” to paraphrase. In otherwords, if all sides come to an agreement, then great. If there is no agreement, then at least we tried with good faith on both sides....maybe later..

That and President Trump is one of the greatest stand up comedians around these days. He loves to play the room...and the room loves it.
