I agree with Mark

Collins did the right thing.....Kudos
I’m glad she did the right thing
She will be harassed, mistreated, embarrassed, vilified by the loons on the left
But she did the right thing

Brett Kavanaugh did the right thing by defending himself
He is being flayed alive for doing so

According to Rand Paul’s wife, so are they......for doing the right thing

Steve Scalise can tell you a few things about how it feels to do the right thing....
So can Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork

.....and Dietrich Bonhoeffer and all the other magnificent shoulders we are fortunate to stand on.

Collins....hero?

Steve was shot, Bork was Borked, Thomas was high tech lynched.....nd Bonhoeffer was hanged

Collins might face name calling, phone calls, loss of former friends ( like many of us who support President Trump)

But hero?......
I thank her for her intestinal fortitude and spirit.

I feel much the same as Mr. Levin -- pleasantly-surprised, given previous disappointment with her performance. Good speech, yes. Epic, heroic? Nope. Just doing what we expected of her.

While I listened, I was having Comey/Hillary exoneration flashbacks. It was clear from the outset that she was thinking fairly clearly and would give Kav the thumbs-up, but I kept expecting the shoe to drop: 'Despite my mostly-positive impressions, I can't support this candidate at this time...'

Let's hope she didn't change her mind overnight...

I heard most of her speech. The service she did was to separate all the over-the-top emotional outrage, that had no factual basis, from the real analysis of his professional life and judicial decisions. There were things she said I disagreed with, but I commend her for clearly giving her reasons to confirm based on facts and logic and not on ridiculous platitudes (All women must be believed!, etc.)

I completely concur with this post.

I will also add that our FReeper brothers and sisters who are blessed to live in Red States may not realize just how difficult it is to execute even basic conservative policy when you live in a deep Blue State.

To me, she’s like a bystander who watched while a bunch of thugs pummeled a helpless little kid to a bloody pulp, finally and reluctantly agreeing that one of the other bystanders ought to call the police. I don’t think any of us can expect her ever to do the right thing out of respect for what is right. It’s not who I want representing me.

So here we are today, before the final vote is even taken, fussing between ourselves over a semantic point.

I couldn't help but notice in her speech that she said Feinstein was a woman of "integrity". I'm sorry but if you can't discern that someone is a lying rat with zero integrity, you should not be a Republican Senator.

Doing what's obviously right makes you a hero - not!

Why do you have to trash someone for doing the right thing? It was a good speech that laid out the important facts which nobody else did.

Wow. Get up on the wrong side of the bed, Mark? I see nothing to criticize in that speech; she may have made some converts.

One thing that must be noted....Both Collins's vote and Murkowski's vote were contrary to the will of the majority of their state's population.

I'm convinced that the majority of both states oppose the vote of their Senator.

I am glad, and to be honest shocked, she voted for confirmation.

And I expect that she will see quite a bit of blowback for it come election time. Some former FReeper friends of mine in Maine were stating that she is going to be bounced out hard.

It seems to me that she may well have saved this nomination for us and a Supreme Court majority along with it. No, I’m not going to criticize her for that. I have my disagreements with her, but she came up big yesterday when we needed it the most.

No Republican Senator should ever vote for any Democrat President’s Supreme Court nominee ever again.

Don’t harsh my buzz, Mark.

From her, it was remarkable. Very well done.

I hope Kavanaugh isn’t the judge she described him as because we will all be very disappointed.

Ironically if the Dems were saying those things about him rather than the raunch approach they’d have a much better chance of defeating him.

Mark hasn’t been active for two years, but let’s tag him anyway.

Senator Collins speech was truly historic as a perfect example of Senatorial responsibilty and upholding the constitution. She presented extremely well thought out, reasoned arguments. Levin should just be quiet on this one...

The key Senator is Jeff Flake. He could have ended the nomination with a no vote in committee.

And his push for another FBI check allowed time for the 'rats entire gambit to be unraveled.

I think she's getting extra pats on the head so that she will be inclined in the future to act with the same common sense she used in her speech. She's always so Flakey about everything that matters to Conservatives. It's positive reinforcement. "Who's a good Senator? You are!"
