The committee is just a formality. They don’t need it. Justice Thomas, for one, was confirmed without it.

Thomas came out of committee with a neutral rating. Bork had a unfavorable rating tagged to him when his vote went down.
The formality has done little to unite us. maybe it should just get tossed in the cases of SCotUS nominees henceforth.
The Senate does make its own rules after all.. they can do anything they want, it seems. even hold back info from a committee, fake or not.

They’ve moved the nomination to the floor on the condition — a condition not enforceable by the committee or Grassley (as he pointed out) — that the vote be delayed one week for another FBI investigation. This is in McConnell’s hands now.
I don’t know. But ask yourself why did he quit. Why did he decide he won’t be returning next year?
I don’t think you are correct... the committee cannot direct the full senate to do anything. It’s up to McConnell now to get the votes or ask Trump to have the FBI look into it.
senate doesn’t control the FBI either...
Maybe/probably/likely wishful thinking, but I think McConnell will step up to the plate and get this done.

No. Grassley just got Flake to move the nomination to the floor without giving the Dems a single thing. The Democrats thought they had some kind of amendment or concession, but they didn’t get anything.
Whether or not there is a delay for an FBI investigation is a matter for Mitch McConnel to decide.
