This is exactly what I thought was going to happen.

Which is why I did not watch one second of the Senate Hearing.

Rachel Mitchell is not incompetent.

Donald Trump and the GOP Senate Leadership are incompetent for hiring her!

I will be very surprised if Grassley votes yes, he has done everything in his power to destroy Judge Kavanaugh.

I wonder how much he took, I wonder how much it cost to buy a 85 year old RINO, Republic hater? I wonder...........

I've said it before and I'll say it again... anyone who has been in the Senate (or Congress) through Obama's term is tainted. They are either blackmailed, or bribed... or both.

Kavanaugh was supposed to fail this confirmation, one way or the other. He didn't... despite all our Dem and GOP "friends" in that hall of corruption.

The swamp creatures have one weakness... they need the public to remain ignorant and apathetic, and just to keep voting them in. Trump is beating them by getting us to wake up... and threatening their status quo by actually going out and voting.

They're now calculating... will they remain in power if they dump Kavanaugh, or do they need to confirm to get out votes.

Their current worry is this November... so they are now forced to confirm. Then, Trump has them where he wants them.

What tipped me off that Rachel Mitchell was going to crash and burn was that no Democrat Senators and no major news media attacked her before the Hearing.

I saw exactly one criticism of Mitchell, not by a Senator, that claimed Mitchell was a colleague of Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The Brown Shirt Media would have had a field day. Even without the video they are bitching about white men. Grassley handled that just right and to decision to bench he3r in favor of Graham was brilliant.

I suspect that Mitchell, being in Maricopa Co, AZ, is a domestic violence feminist. If so...big mistake.

This is a little off-topic, but there are...

* 48 senators who will probably vote to confirm.

* 43 senators will probably be no votes.

* 9 senators in question.

Susan Collins (R-ME)

Joe Donnelly (D-IN)

Jeff Flake (R-AZ)

Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND)

Doug Jones (D-AL)

Joe Manchin (D-WV)

Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

Bill Nelson (D-FL)

Jon Tester (D-MT)

Manchin, Donnelly and Heitkamp are likely possibilities for confirmation votes. Collins is also a slight possibility if given enough encouragement, IMO (expressed public doubt to feminist constituents that Kavanaugh would overturn Roe v. Wade).

Sweet-talk ‘em.

Oh! At least 50 votes to confirm with Pence for a tie-breaker if needed.

Consider this: Mitchell barely had one or two days to prepare.

She also has to use the evidence submitted to the committee, which wasn't much, and at the last minute, under their rules.

I doubt anyone, including Dershowitz, would have been any better under the same circumstances.

NEOPHITES !

TODAY WAS BRILLIANT !

. Miss Mitchell was brilliant in flavoring every one of her questions with democrat illegality .... It seems to have been lost on every commentator I've listened to, but that was all I heard ... Did Feinstein .... did her staff ..... who paid for ..... and it was NOT lost on the democrats.

That found a sweet innocent voiced dumb blond type to be put into trap after trap that revealed nothing but that the democrats in their arrogance really thought they could shoot someone on the White House lawn and get away with it.

Near the end, Grassley told the democrats to ask the question and shut up, and gave Kavenaugh as much time as he needed to answer.

The democrats near the end were sitting on the tails between their legs

.

And then there was Lindsey Graham !

.

Between President Trump standing tall on planet Earth and Lindsey putting our enemies in a temporary grave ....

.

TODAY WAS BRILLIANT.

.

I don't think Kavenaugh was in on it, it wouldn't have worked if he knew.

.

All he got was the coaching to come out swinging, which he did like a boss!

. Welcome to the Supreme Court, Justice Kavenaugh.

It was not Rachel Mitchell's job to play to the TV audience.

Her job was to uncover weaknesses not already apparent in Ford's story and do it in a way that doesn't make the old GOP white guys on the Committee look like they were tough on a female victim. And BTW she did this mostly this to provide support for those Senators who might vote for Kavanaugh.

First, Mitchell very smoothly got Ford to admit that she was lying about her fear of flying (it turns out that she is a frequent flyer).

That was a direct lie told by Ford to the Committee in an attempt to delay the hearings and thereby delay the confirmation vote. A very big deal.

The second major "get" was saved for the end of the examination.

Mitchell inquired (very deferentially so as not to piss off women voters everywhere) why her best friend, Leland Keyser, who Ford claimed (as a witness) was at the party in question, not only denied knowing Kavanaugh BUT ALSO denied ever having been at this party OR even having heard of this attack by Kavanaugh.

Keep in mind that this woman (girl at the time) was Ford's best friend. According to Ford, this best friend was downstairs while Ford was presumably being attacked in an upstairs bedroom. Yet Ford never confided this attack to her best friend?

As an aside, let me add here that Leland Keyser submitted her denial to the Committee in a signed, sworned affidavit which, if untrue, would have resulted in Keyser's being charged with a felony.

Ford's response was devastating (for her credibility).

Ford said her best friend's failure to corroborate her story and, in fact, her best friend's refutation of her story was somehow the result of Keyser's "health issues."

"Health issues"? Huh?

That's on a par with my dog ate my homework. Except in this case the missing homework resulted in the destruction of a man's reputation, career, and life.

That was the death knell of Christine Blasey Ford's claim and credibility.

she teased out the flying lie. Teased out that Ford’s attorneys allowed her to take a poly on the day of her grandmother’s funeral and then something about a connecting flight urgency but then stayed overnight at the airport (I’ll have to go back and listen to that again). Substantiated Ford’s residence on the map. substantiated that Ford had a ride home. Ford had orginally stated that the event happened ‘towards the end of my sophomore year’ - Mitchell saw her change that to mid-summer or six to eight weeks before mid-August (maybe trying to fit it to the calendar Kav released Wed). Substantiated that she was well versed in the Whelan article at a time when she stated she didn’t read the news and didn’t know about Congressional offers to fly to her, etc.

BUT....I have seen two tweets now, that say Mitchell told lawmakers in summation that she would not have pressed charges as a prosecutor. We need to have that confirmed or traced to a reliable source - as in, a lawmaker source and not just a tweet. anybody?

And while we’re at it, on July 1, Squi (Tim) was noted as being at a brewski party in Kav’s calendar, along with Judge and Kav and a few other football mates. Ford said she dated Squi for a few months and knew his little brother better. Ford has never mentioned Squi as being present at her event. (which would create a whole new set of questions) So July 1 means nothing, with Squi in the picture it doesn’t fit the scenario Ford painted, but the left is already claiming it as proof of the Ford event, using the Judge worked at safeway timeframe of the beginning to mid-august and counting back six to eight weeks.

Just so everyone is aware, they’re not finished slinging mud.

Will all due respect to Dersh, I don’t agree. here’s what I said in the main thread:

Everyone complaining about Mitchell is dead wrong.

This entire hearing was one massive trap set for the GOP, and the Dems were desperately hoping they’d fall into one of them. Why do you think Ford’s lawyers were so upset when they heard Mitchell would be doing the questioning?

Sexist elderly men berating the “Victim”? - nope.
Questioner too tough on Ford? - nope.
Questioner too easy on Kavanaugh? - nope.
Kavanaugh brutally attacking Ford? - nope.

What you should do was exactly what they did - seem to play nice, but expose her inconsistencies gently, and allow viewers to determine that she’s disturbed and troubled ON THEIR OWN.

Then Kavanaugh aggressively defends himself while not attacking Ford directly.

Then the GOP senators take over, and accuse Ford of being an unfortunate, sad pawn in the hands of evil, corrupt Democrat politicians and lawyers, who will get into the sewer and do anything to defeat Kavanaugh.

Brilliant.

That’s why the Democrats were so gobsmacked and aimless (and looked bad) when it came time to question BK. They’d been neutered by the GOP strategy, and every stupid thing they tried to bring up (HS yearbook pages? Avenatti’s bullcrap?) validated what the GOP wanted people to think about them.

Great job today outmaneuvering the leftist freaks.

several senators said she did what they wanted her to do. she did point out about 8 - 10 problems with her narrative, which was changing right into the hearing room, the whole polygraph process, the whole flying hoax, and generally evoking the impression that Ford was not on top of her story line. i thought this was all tailormade for the senators who are on the fence - to give them a strong foundation for a “yes” vote. if she had done a summation, i think all of this would have been clearer.

Donald Trump and the GOP Senate Leadership are incompetent for hiring her!

You, sir or madam, either do not understand separation of powers or you just want to gratuitously slam the President. Neither President Trump nor any president hires congressional staff. They have no voice in such personnel matters. That hearing (all congressional hearings) was governed by the chair and ranking member. The chairperson, Grassley in this instance, hired the prosecutor.

President Trump is the person who actually started breaking through the Senate Republicans' fear of being "mean" to the accuser when he came out and forcefully called what the Dems were doing a con job. Then Lindsey Graham followed Trump's lead and decided to fight. That turned the tide.

Her questioning needed to be as if she was being nice to this sympathetic victim. Her real job was to brief ALL the Repuboicans on the committee about what Fords’ answers and previous inconsistencies actually signified as only an experienced prosecutor can do. She made the point. Between her and Graham (Pigs are flying in flocks today- I am praising something from Graham) this whole sinking ship was pumped out and is sailing and nearing port.
