WASHINGTON - Republican senators have selected Arizona prosecutor Rachel Mitchell to question Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the woman who has accused the Supreme Court nominee of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers, a top senator announced Tuesday.
Mitchell, the sex crimes bureau chief for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office in Phoenix, will query the two at Thursday's highly anticipated Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. A registered Republican, Mitchell has worked for the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for 26 years.
The division Mitchell heads deals with family violence, physical and sexual abuse of children, and sex offenses, including sex assault cases. Mitchell oversees about 40 to 50 people in the division, said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. Mitchell has a long history of investigating years-old sex crimes and allegations that are difficult to corroborate, including in her role re-examining hundreds of cases that were unresolved and inadequately investigated by the sheriff's office, Montgomery said."

As a prosecuter it sounds as if she is always an advocate for the so-called victim and has a built-in bias against the accused. There are many cases on record where an over zealous prosecuter has resulted in conviction of innocent defendants. The infamous case of the Duke lacrosse players is one example. While trying to be fair for Blasey Ford, with this selection the Republicans may have tipped the scale in favor of her and against Kavenaugh.
Arizona? Hmmmm...
I hope she hasn’t bought a plane ticket yet. She won’t be needed.
The format for the hearing has been set and it may well indeed intiminate her and she will stay away. The format has her going first with questioning by Mitchell or the Pub senators. Each senator has 5-minutes to ask her questions and may give that time to Mitchell. After the questioning of Blasey Ford, the same process is repeated for Kavenaugh. I suppose Dem senators may use her, but I suspect most questions will be by the Senators themselves.
The SC senator said she’d be the one asking questions, instead of senators. I don’t know if this is for all senators or just the Republican senators.
I'd guess Mitchell knows a real sex crime when she sees one. People like this interview real brutalized victims with real physical injuries as well as mental trauma and many of which have way better memories than Ford.
Wondering if the Senators will be asking her for her OPIN on the veracity of the “interviewee” aka lying liberal wacko Fema-Natzi
Lindsey Graham is very good at cross examining.. I wouldn’t want to have him against me in a court and he isn’t buying any of what Ford is trying to sell
Pin the scrag down about the story that she was so traumatized all those years ago that she can’t fly. Expose that as myth and use that to bust her deceitful door in
yep..why are they bringing in a PROSECUTOR!
She will be fine. The optics are very good having a prosecutor rather than a defense attorney doing the questioning. Incidentally, the Duke lacrosse players were never even tried, much less convicted.
Yes, one would think of a defense attorney against those she accused as the more appropriate choice here.
Good choice! Sounds like we are out-strateregizing Madame Fineswine and Planned Barrenhood!
The entire farce will change absolutely no one’s mind about the issue. It’s theater. A poor performance by Ford might shake some fence sitting Republicans (Flake) off the fence, a good performance by Ford and a poor performance by Kavanaugh might peal off Collins and Murkowski. But only because of political expediency, not any change of heart.
No, but they came close and went through absolute hell for months!
I was assigned to a unit that investigated these cases and worked closely with the local DA’s office during the investigations. When you first go to a unit like this, you believe every “victim”, but like anything else you soon learn that things aren’t always as they seem. Then you learn that some of the “victims”, if not a very significant percentage of them are lying or are being coached to achieve a certain outcome or support an agenda. In some cases, the “victims” act alone because they want to try and get rid of the mothers boyfriend, get rid of the stepdad, or get some kid in trouble because he won’t talk to her anymore.
Either way, it really doesn’t take long to find out if someone is lying.
Where does all of that lead to, many times(if not most) you’re not only trying to find out what happened and ALSO what DIDN’T happen. These units are overwhelmed with cases. And when it’s a legitimate case, it needs the resources and dedication it deserves. Those REAL cases don’t need to be short changed by a lie. Therefore, bringing in this prosecutor could be their way of letting them know that Kavanaugh’s side doesn’t just have a loudmouth liberal legal team, but someone with real life experience. Also, unless it’s just a big show, take note of how much Ford’s team is complaining about the prosecutor. Ford, et al, weren’t expecting this kind of push back, even though we all wish they’d push back some more.
Not fair!!! Not fair!!!
One could hope that somehow she has a positive relationship with Flake or something, since he’s the one most at risk of torpedoing the committee vote.
Thanks for your well-informed views on this matter. Helps give us some much needed insight!
Arizona. .. maybe a Joe Arpaio buddy. I don’t have a problem with that.
I hope she doesn’t go all wobbly and handle Ford with kid gloves. Don’t be mean and intimidating, but strong enough to get the truth.
