Most of the internet could be affected as some Linux devs threaten to rescind code in response to CoC controversy.
I'm pulling from another discussion thread to explain why the new social-justice code of conduct is insufficient at best and horrible at worst.
There are three points where the Contributor Covenant fails badly:
1. It leaves open the door for what may be considered inappropriate, which is a shame given how much it was sold that a CoC was for reducing misunderstandings; two people's friendly banter may be direct aggresion to a 3rd party viewer, or more commonly, speaking about healthy habits may be offensive to someone who's has made being fat part of his/her identity.
2. The scope is also something open to interpretation. It's one thing to not speak about those things in the LKML, or maybe even in Linux related events, but if you can't even talk about them in Twitter or even on a small Mastodon instance due to fear of being "representing the project" then you are effectively censored.
3. It's, more often than not, enforced selectively to remove undesirables from the project, while the actual racists stay and gain more power.
That's aside from undermining meritocracy in the name of diversity.
The reason people are considering removing their code is - you worked for hours or years creating Linux in exchange for a resume enhancer and public kudos.
But if a liberal bully says you're an evil bigot for posting conservative content on a blog or are merely accused of wrong-think in a private discussion, not only are you out but you're name is removed from credit and you're smeared by these authoritarians.
In short, social justice is infecting Linux, likely via Linus' daughter and it threatens to destroy the open source movement.
Other projects are facing the same thing, and liberals aren't standing up to these bullies.
Linux developers threaten to pull kill switch

I have used linux for years, so don’t take this as from a windoze slave....
Good. Let the pendulum swing wildly so far that people get enough and kick ass.
The PC crap has gone beyond crazy.
I thought Linux was a stand alone independent program?
4. Most developers don’t understand the legal definitions of terms in the CoC, so gravely risk transgression. Are y’all aware that “sexual assault” is VERBAL behavior in some jurisdictions?
Being “Fat?”
This sounds, from what I’ve been reading, 100% worse than “GamerGate”. Is this where the internet “splits”?
This might be a watershed event.
The victims of the fascist snowflakes have some actual intellectual property rights and they aren’t dealing with “a private business.”
They could blow the whole thing up right in the fascists’ faces.
Activists from the feminist and LGBTQIA+ communities have been trying to force the Linux project to join the Contributor Covenant since at least 2015. BLAH
Funny, like Zuckerberg Linus cultivated a reputation as a raging ahole. An ahole who wasn’t afraid to take anything down a peg or speak plainly. And he certainly had big swinging balls when it came to attacking Christianity and conservatives and linux newbies. But all of a sudden when confronted with politically correct warriors he’s a mewling kitten who wants understanding. These leftwing tech and pop culture bros are all the same...they can give a licking to stuff that doesn’t fight back but confronted with a true state religion, they’re abject cowards when it comes down to it.
"...It finally happened. Linus Torvalds, the intrepid creator and leader of Linux kernel development, realized that in today's world his attitude and behavior doesn't fly in the face of an enlightened, progressive global population. Further, locker room talk and the sometimes cruel treatment of others simply cannot and will not be tolerated anymore.
At least, that's the hope with the Linux Code of Conduct, which was released to foster a global community of passionate developers who want to work and build something good together.
The code is based on the Contributor Covenant and aims to be a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
How important this is cannot be repeated enough..."
Good God. I don't like the sound of that. If you have cancer, do you want a good surgeon, or a surgeon with a lousy bedside manner, or a politically correct surgeon? Do you want good code, or something written by someone who won't insult someone?
What is wrong with these people?
I know nothing about code and never wanted to. But, i doubt it is written to project any political posture.
This makes me want to vomit. These people need to be ridiculed.
Also do these programmers derive any benefit from others using their efforts? Depriving the programmer of these benefit without a hearing is an issue. Plus depriving someone of their livelihood with out due cause.
the feminist and LGBTQIA+ communities should make their own Linux Distro and shut up
If this is true the only thing that’s going to be killed by the kill switch is Linux, and MSFT will be through the roof tomorrow.
I read the article and the comments. Still no clue about what’s going on.
How can a coded program be politically incorrect?
They CoC in question is absolutely intended to be a political posturing. The author is abundantly clear about this.
For some reason the thought of that game made me feel a wave of disgust and nausea...
