If Trump wanted a gloves off approach that should have come at the very start of her allegations. Before support for her allegations had a chance to grow and before any doubts about Kavanuagh’s confirmation could be planted in the minds of Republicans. By changing his approach I think he takes away focus on Kavanaugh’s qualifications and on Ford.
There are a number of people who honestly do not care about the truth of her allegations. They only care that the allegations were made. They believe the truth does not matter. What matters is that a person accused of such a thing not be confirmed to the USSC. To them it does not matter if he is innocent and his reputation and career left in tatters because he would not be going to jail. To them support for victims of sexual assault trumps the truth. That is the scary times we live in. Due process be damned. The woman must be believed, at any cost.
This is why Trump is a multi-billionaire whose photo appears in the dictionary under the definition of "WINNER", and you're not.
The gloves-off approach would have been a terrible political move to make. It's far better to let your opponents (and I would include Ford, her lawyers, and the Senate Democrats in this group) spend 3-4 days making complete @sses of themselves first.
Once the reports came out last night about the utterly ridiculous "demands" being made by Ford's lawyers, that's when the gloves came off. In boxing terms, it's much easier to pummel the sh!t out of an opponent who has been flailing away for two minutes of Round 1, and is now standing there in the ring so exposed that he's basically asking the judge to shorten the first round from three minutes to two.
If Trump wanted a gloves off approach that should have come at the very start of her allegations.
Not possible. POTUS has very little influence on the GOP Senate. They do what they want. Stinking piles of garbage Senate omnibus funding bills, obamacare non-repeal, no border money, etc.
The allegations only started a little more than a week ago. The ball is in the Senate's court per the Constitution. Trump can't usurp that authority. No doubt, he was assured by McConnell that all was under control. Maybe it is. But the longer it goes on, the greater the opportunity for that dynamic to change.
This is all political theater. The Dems know exactly how they will vote as do the vast majority of Reps. The Dems need to persuade two Rep senators to vote against Kavanaugh. It is that simple. Will the Reps stand together or will a few frightened rabbits defect? Everyone knows that Kavanaugh is qualified.
Where has the focus been on Ford's credibility? She is the one making the unsubstantiated allegations at the very last minute. That is the purpose of Trump's sarcastic tweet.
You said ‘If Trump wanted a gloves off approach that should have come at the very start of her allegations”.
He warned the Rep’s not to touch this....obvious those who oppose Trump wouldn’t heed so.
