Strategists advising Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh plan to use aggressive tactics this week in response to the public accusation of a "stumbling drunk" sexual assault in high school that instantly imperiled his confirmation, top sources tell Jonathan Swan:

Some involved in the process are going to urge Senate leaders to call on the accuser — Christine Blasey Ford, who went on the record with The Washington Post's Emma Brown — to testify publicly this week, ahead of Thursday's scheduled Judiciary Committee vote. This gambit basically bets that she will decline, and Republicans can then say that they tried to investigate further.

A source close to the process said that if Democrats sink Kavanaugh "we’ll just bring in someone more conservative."

I’m interested to see exactly what GOP hardball looks like. This is pretty close to a new concept. My expectations are appropriately low. They’ve had all weekend to either plan or cower.

Barring very few states, sexual assault has a statute of limitations, and this woman has far exceeded most of them, even California.

To a majority of Americans, this is very obviously political theater. I pray that the politicians who are truly leading for the interests of our republic see right through this charade and march forward.

This is a tactically-timed event executed by some of the worst politicians in DC to not only attempt a Bork- or Thomas-style attack on a potential SCOTUS pick but to maintain relevance in a time when most Americans are hyper-connected and tuned into the shenanigans of an increasingly irrelevant governing style.

OK, has anyone in the GOP told the two retiring has-beens, Corker and Flake?

Because they don’t even have any balls to play with, hard or otherwise.

Christine Blasey Ford, the Democrat, the one whose life goal was to drump Trump really needs to call Anita Hill and see if she really wants to go through with this.

Both of them will.

I thought I heard that Flake wants to have her testify before the vote. I have no idea what Collins position is, if she even has one yet. I wonder how long it will take for McCain’s successor to be named and installed.

Sometime around 1438 EDT, I presume.

To me hardball means no testimony. This could have been brought up in anytime in the last two months, but it was saved as a last minute smear.

Testimony will mean just an accusation her made up, just remembered word against his. There will round-the-clock fake news commentary about how she is ‘credible’ and the accusations were ‘serious’.

They have forfeited their right to have this considered, and it should be treated as the vile smear tactic that it is.

The more they delay... the closer to the election we get and the more angry and fired up the non traditional MAGA voters will become (because lord knows the GOP isn’t trying to reach out to them).

This dirty pool by th Dems may be what costs them the house this fall.

The woman should be asked:
Why should we believe you when you have no proof? This is your word against at least two other people. Why should we believe you?

Her answer would probably be something like “Because I have no reason to lie.”

Followup: Then why did you not believe the women like Juanita Broadrick who claimed that Bill Clinton forcibly raped her. She had proof and reported the incident the next day. You, being an ardent Democratic activist didn’t believe that or said it didn’t matter. Why should we believe you without any proof what so ever? Shouldn’t the law be applied equally or would it not have mattered if Judge Kavanaugh had been a Democrat?

Make her have to publically denounce the Clinton’s and call Bill a rapist and his wife an enabler on national TV. Then ask about Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick. Then the “Waitress Sandwich. Cap it off by outing the names of the Democratic members of Congress (and Republicans) who accessed the slush fund to make sexual issues go away. Bring the whole thing to light. Make the Senators and Congress Slime squirm.

Name names, do it on national TV.

Drain the swamp.

Incorrect.

She will testify 3 seconds into the vote.

While I love the concept of your scenario, I think we both know it’s not going to happen.

Republicans try to be the party of propriety and manners while the Democrats have no problem wading into the hog waller, heaping the biggest, most fetid lump of mud they can find, and slinging it at whoever is the most popular pig in the pen. Your situation is factually and historically accurate, but it doesn’t “play nice,” so they won’t use it.
