Jeb Bush criticized President Trump's controversial tweets about the death toll in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
"Incredibly disheartening comments from our President," Bush tweeted Thursday.
Trump beat the former Florida governor for the Republican nomination for president in 2016.
Trump sparked controversy earlier Thursday when he tweeted that the estimated 3,000 death toll was intentionally inflated by Democrats.
The 3,000 approximation comes from a George Washington University study that tried to total how many "excess deaths" occurred because of Hurricane Maria and would not have happened in the absence of the cyclone.
Those involved with the study have emphasized that the 3,00 estimate(!) is not a conclusive number and further work should be done.
"Among all the deaths that occurred, which of them were related to Maria, which of them would not have occurred if it hadn't been for the storm? We're not able to say that now," the dean of GW's Milken Institute School of Public Health, Lynn Goldman, told CNN late last month.
The president has not brought forward any evidence for his claim Democrats falsified the number.
Trump has been roundly criticized for his tweets on the left and the right, even among some of his most staunch defenders.
Still, the White House defended the president's statements Thursday.
"President Trump was responding to the liberal media and the San Juan Mayor who sadly have tried to exploit the devastation by pushing out a constant stream of misinformation and false accusations," White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement Thursday to CNN.
Thst 3000 tweet is just plain bullshit

“Ardent supporters” my ass, criticizing Trump for calling out BS.
The problem is that he was too short and needed to stand on tippie toes to be seen.

He doesn’t do it around his wife.
Has anyone done a similar study on Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 during the Obama Regime?
Yes. Spanish culture is inferior to Anglo-Saxon culture. In particular, it leads to corrupt and incompetent government.
Because they got nothing else. It’s just like when the media makes a big deal about a Twitter comment from an unknown actor that most people couldn’t identify if their life depended on it. Anything to sling more sh*t up against the wall.
Apparently the death study was done by a bunch of college kids. I’d love to see someone do some actual research and then invite the little sh*ts to an open debate. College liberal hipsters vs Alan West, D’nesh D’Souza, Anne Coulter, and just for good measure, Thomas Sowell. Alternates for that Dream Team would be Neil Boortz, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Victor Davis Hanson.
It would be an absolute bloodletting. Of course, the college kids would have to have those shock belts they put on defendants in court. So, when they get out of hand, an impartial judge w/ the “anti bark button”.
BAHAHAHA
It is Trump Derangement Syndrome. Trump had nothing to do with the hurricane. A mayor praised his government’s actions in the wake of the hurricane. So then the left trotted out people to attack Trump over inaction. It has been the dems storyline.
Jeb is a disinformation agent. He is also a democrat.
Give him the clap!
And just how much did jeb! (Aka hillary!) spend per vote?
These Puerto Rican deaths after Hurricane Maria should be counted as to who died DURING the storm. Any deaths after the storm left and after the State of Emergency was lifted is the problem of the Corrupt Puerto Rican Government, lack of power and a horrible electric grid, in addition to the 12-hour daily curfew that the Governor of PR instituted - making it impossible for trucks to deliver goods, gasoline, etc.
Funny how we don’t hear a peep about the US Virgin Islands stats - and they had Irma and Maria pass through their islands. Irma only skidded PR in the north. It’s because the USVI did not politicize their numbers, that’s why! The USVI Governor has lauded and thanked President Trump, that’s why! Some idiot on CNN was saying that there were more deaths in PR after Maria than on 9/11/01. First off, 9/11 was a TERROR ATTACK, not a storm!
I know about Maria — my parents live in Old San Juan!
JEB! - STFU and go home to the Democrat Party, for everyone’s sake. Please.
Yours is a post that needs expanding and repeating. The real faults in PR relief is their corrupt corrupt government and thieving unions.
Or is it CAtholic culture?
It shouldn’t be TOO hard to compile a list of predominately Catholic countries to see.
You are repeating yourself.
Any more of it and I’ll report you to the Department of Redundancy Department!
