Four years ago a seemingly invincible US senator came within a percentage point of losing his seat in an unexpectedly close election. Mark Warner was pretty moderate as far as Democrats go, a good fit for a state, Virginia, that had drifted out of the Republican column in the last two presidential elections and just elected a full slate of Democratic statewide officials a year before. But midterms are when presidents and their parties get rebuked, and Warner, a telecom millionaire who had once been tipped as presidential contender, took his support for granted. The Republican, lobbyist Ed Gillespie, was supposed to be hopeless, but he nearly claimed what was supposed to be a safe Democratic seat for the GOP.
Texas has been solidly Republican for a lot longer than Virginia has been Democratic, and by a wider margin. But that makes the fact that Ted Cruz has only a single-digit lead over his Democratic opponent, Beto ORourke, all the more remarkable. Polls suggest Senator Cruz is in trouble, and if the overwhelmingly Republican character of the Lone Star State counts against that, the likelihood that 2018 will be as bad for the GOP as 2014 was for the Democrats throws the contest up in the air again...

Lyin’ Ted has been more loyal to Trump than our other Senator.
Texas has a Senator that needs to go away and it isn’t Ted.
I wish Americans loved America like Texans love Texas.
Nope, Republican women hate Trump and will abandon the GOP and all of their candidates. Not all Republican women, of course, but many will do so and what the Democrats will call the Blue Wave will really be the vengeance of Republican women.
Perry was talking about Moving to California after politics. I hope he does and tells everyone there how much Texas sucks.
President Trump started out with approval ratings in the negative numbers. He has been excoriated by the news media and Democrat politicians and also Republicans. Amazingly, his approval ratings are nearly 50% in the most negatively slanted polling possible. If anything, he is more popular as the incumbent President than than historically Presidents have been. He is seen as embattled by his own party and a biased media, and yet more people are working and have money coming in. What is going to have more effect, historical trends, or people making money?
Ted Cruz is probably the most articulate persuasive intelligent and intimidating conservative in the Senate and certainly in Texas. Everytime he speaks, whether in debate or in committee or speech, he is profound, deep, and inspiring.
He will win. The people who vote in Texas don’t make a big splash in the media or on TV. They just go vote quietly and don’t do polls either.
Complacency is the problem.
In some way, we must all get involved to get out our vote.
No, so stop wringing your hands! With Abbot running for Gov. it is going to be a clean sweep for the GOP.
Every State has Liberal cities.
I could not disagree more. I am a Conservative woman. I have friends all over the country. Lived on both Coasts and in between. We have big ones and pretty much
abhor our f/b spewing idiot females, we just cannot say it outloud.
Everyone knows my political views, we just do not talk about it to keep the peace.
Cruz wins big.
His internals are great, got more primary votes then all of the Democrats combined.
This is all MSM propaganda.
We cannot afford to have Texas go wobbly on us, especially as they are always talking so tough. They need to show us that they do the walk as well as do the talk.
You think Texas GOP women are pro-abortion?
Not with his base he hasn’t!
Well, they are back!
He isn’t going to lose and since Trump is going to support him stop calling him ‘lying Ted’, that war is over.
O’really? Come on.
Lots of Beto signs in my mom’s neighborhood (Lake Highlands) in Dallas when I was there the past few days. Only a few for Cruz. It has me concerned.
